The business and owners must have changed since we last enjoyed a lunch in these premises. Having good memories of the previous owners' culinary offerings, we eagerly returned to this cafe spot in the Greythorn Shopping Centre. We hesitated upon noticing the change of decor, business name and staff but ventured in nevertheless.The previous owners has spoiled us with on-the-spot home made Italian pastries and super friendly service. This time we perused the cakes in the glass cabinet, which looked and tasted like every other cafe's offering. We only had time for coffee and cake; we might return to try the lunch menu another day.
Very busy on a late Sunday morning, this cafe has an open kitchen and some table available in a courtyard if the weather is better than today. The menu offered an interesting variety if breakfast and brunch items, all with an Italian, Spanish or South American theme, very tasty. The Italian red eggs were a spicy change from scrambled eggs on toast and all servings looked very generous. Delicious looking cakes to take away, as well.
The family have enjoyed breakfast here a couple of times as we have been blow away by the menu offering. From delightful Sri Lankan hoppers to Irish toast, from Leftover pasta to Hawaiian steaks and gravy, and from American eggs to Japanese pancakes. Return visit after the recent menu change and was not disappointed. Pleased to see the Sri Lankan hoppers retain their position, however this time the Japanese (rhubarb) pancakes and El Pedro eggs were magnificent. I am very pleased with this restaurant overall. I would rate it a 4.5 out of 5. I stopped in on my way to work and found the staff to be very nice. The coffee and food were both excellent. The new take on eggs benedict was exceptional, with perfectly cooked eggs.
I am in heaven.... a coffee snob who works in the heart of coffee land in Church Street Richmond, to have found such amazing coffee so close to home = very happy. Hot, rich in flavour, never burnt beans or milk. Keep it up!
Try the risotto, it's amazing! I have it every time I go here, seriously the best I can remember having (i've paid double the price for risotto which is only half as good as here). The Sri Lankan hoppers are pretty good too
Hands down the best food in Rifle. I've dinned at Jays many times and the service and food is always above average.
