I wrote my original review in 2012. So this is an update. My wife and I went back to Trio last week for supper and were not disappointed. Service as usual was excellent and friendly. My wife had the seafood pasta. I sampled hers and it was amazing. Very generous seafood including mussels. Perfectly cooked pasta. Wonderful rich creamy sauce. Can't say enough about it. My wife was hugely impressed as well. I can never resist the chowder here. Simply one of the best anywhere. Rich and creamy with perfectly consistent texture. Four stars for the service, and 3 stars for the food too bad I can't give it a half star in between rating. The so so food won over and I only rate it a 3 overall. The food was just ok nothing amazing or great, but not bad either. One of the seafood pasta dinners had very good seafood but the pasta wasn't good (over cooked and bland). The hamburger was a good size and pretty good, but choice of sides was scant. The chicken dinner special was very good. The salmon dinner, however, had a very small portion but at least tasted ok. Had a great meal with my mom last Friday night. We had the prime rib special with Bourbon demi glaze, mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. We also had some wine and split the warm brownie for dessert. Everything was delicious and our server, Nikita, was really lovely. She even took our photo for us infront of the Christmas tree. Great ambiance, nice food, good beverage selection and very cozy. Super friendly staff! Parking: Lots of parking next to the hotel. Accessible parking spaces right infront of the building. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible parking spaces right infront of the building and bathrooms on the main floor with thr restaurant.
We had a marvelous dinner at Trio tonight. Got off a busy day that included five plus hours of driving. The crab cake appetizer was great. Crunchy Pablo breading not at all greasy. More chunks of crab meat instead of finely cut meat would have been better but tasted great. My wife had excellent maple glazed salmon. I had surf and turf with a rib eye and scallops. Tender seared scallops were very fresh. The steak was perfect (I like rare) and very flavorful. Great turnips as part of the veggie medley. Mild flavor which was unusual. I think the Atmosphere was nice, the food was ok, a little over priced for the skill of the preparation, (example: there is really nothing that makes their deep fried calamari any different than any of the other deep friend calamari's I've had in town) . I was really surprised they they didn't use heated plates, they seem to have a really open kitchen thing going on but I think the lack of heat lamps just contributed to my food coming out getting cold quickly. I don't feel like the staff was super friendly with me either. IDK everything was fine.
Great atmosphere, really nice place. They were very busy. Most of the food was quite good. Not enough staff, they were run off their feet, resulting in hit or miss service where staff didn't have time to come back to your table. This meant missing things like refills, getting sauces, bringing over the wrong dishes, missing dishes, etc. One of our meals was a bad cut, that went unaddressed because there was no one to check back on the meal. If you go on a slow night it's probably a much better experience.
A rather weird experience dining here. The server seemed to cover the entire restaurant so was a bit overtasked. Wife enjoyed her steak, though thought her mashed potatoes came out of a box. I had the seafood risotto, which was far too overwhelming in size, making it a somewhat nauseous experience eating barely half of it. There are other more viable options within walking distance.
The service was excellent, the atmosphere was wonderful, food was served hot, but I wasn't pleased with my food. I had the seafood risotto which was very, very rich/heavy. Was unable to finish my meal due to the heaviness. I was surprised it wasn't served with any type of bread. My husband had the chicken fettuccine and said it was ok. I have to say I really miss the old menu.
