me and the missus had a coffee here sometime last year and kept saying we'd go back for a meal. Well guess what! we finally got around to it a couple of weekends ago with another couple. I've always liked the ambiance of this place as the tree outside the restaurant has lanterns hanging from it which gives it a more intimate feel and the tree screens the road a little making feel a little cosier. Plus on the night we went back the cafe blinds were down keeping the chill out and the heat in. Staff were attentive and communicative and made us feel welcome. I had the pleasure of stumbling on Tusk on my last visit to Melbourne. We were staying within walking distance of Chapel st and went to find a GOOD coffee. Tusk provided not only a good Soy coffee for myself but the others also thought their non Soy coffee was worth a repeat visit. Our second visit, the next day we were greeted again by amazing service, great breakfast and another couple of rounds of great coffee- just to prove it wasn't a one off!! I must mention, as a frequent traveller, it's the service that really impressed me. Tusk seems like a busy place and yet the wait staff appear smiling and energetic..... in a kind of warm and welcoming way. Whatever the management there are doing...
We stopped here for lunch while walking the Chapel st. There are a lot of different restaurants here, but we opted to sit outside, in a leafy shade, so we picked out Tusk. We really liked the ambient.We had a Chicken tandoori chicken burger and a Tusk beef burger. Both were served on crunchy bun and had fries as a side dish. Both burgers were tasty and very good value (18.5 AU$). As a desert we shared one white chocolate cheese cake and raspberry coulis. Draft beer (Carlton) was 7.5 AU$, while freshly squeezed juice was around 6 AU$. Service was just OK, nothing to write home about.Only downside was the toilet, which wasn't especially clean (located a few doors down, not really in the caffe)...
Well worth a coffee, chill and chat. Had the "South of the boarder" a take on huevos rancheros, with all the trimmings, guac, jalapeños, sour cream... hangover cure for sure. Mate had eggs on multigrain and home made hash brown. Served by a great waitress with a friendly bubbly personality, we all had a laugh or two. Quick to bring out the life changing coffees and waters, much needed. On trend "hipster style" decor that was reminiscent of someone's lounge room. Will definitely hit it up again if nearby. Terrible service! I'd been to this place before and got an average coffee but this morning I thought I would give it another shot.I went to the walk up window since I had my puppy with me. 3 out of three of the staff looked at me to see I was waiting for service. 2 of them continued to go about what it was they were doing and the 3rd with a look of disgust returned to typing his txt message. Avoid this place like the plague if your hoping for a good old fashioned smile and a warm welcome.
Front the minute we walked in, we were made to feel very welcome. We visited Tusk for breakfast and I wish that I could have tried everything on the menu... but alas. I opted for the chorizo, caramelised onion, olive and parmesan open omelette. It was beautifully presented and tasted just as good. The coffee was on point as well. 10/10 would go again.
Loved this place today. Staff really friendly, and great when the staff don't write down your order and it arrives just as it should be... Coffee was perfect, not bitter, correct temp, just right. I had eggs on toast, my wife had pork sliders and both meals were spot on. Runny eggs, mmmm.Will be back next time in Chapel St.
It was nice sitting outside on a warm Autumn's evening. It wasn't too busy, service was fast and friendly. We had a grazing platter, which was loaded with a variety of goodies. It's a nice place with a good menu, I would recommend giving it a try. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
One of our favourite places for brekkie on Chapel St. Eggs Benny is always amazing. Good coffee good location for people watching.
