My family and I have been loyal fans of Umai since they first opened, enjoying many glasses of wine, beer, and whisky shared with Chef Ray while indulging in some of the best sushi in the area, if not the entire eastern USA. It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. During the shutdowns and pandemic, we were all encouraged to support our local small businesses, especially restaurants. Wanting to do our part, my parents purchased a gift certificate to Umai. However, when they finally tried to redeem it last night, they were told it had expired. Sushi was just ok. There were only 4 tables with people and everyone already had food when we arrived. It took 45 minutes before any sushi hit our table. There were 2 people making sushi and 2 or 3 take out orders were picked up during that time as well. I have no idea what took so long because there was no explanation or apology. Just a comment from the waitress that it is hard to eat out with a toddler... well, it usually isn't but he doesn't like to sit in a high chair for 45 minutes after he ate. They were nice enough to bring his plain rice out very quickly as requested.
Wow… We have had a really wonderful time, since the beginning to the end, the menu is excellent. They pay a lot of attention to details and the quality of their ingredients. Their sushi is one of a kind, with great signature plates. I don't much Asian rice, but UMAI rice is delicious. Over all it was a great experience, in this small great place..Thanks Chef for the amazing Sophia’s birthday memories!!!

Been eating Sushi along Time . You can tell by my profile . I’ve been to plenty of paces all around the country. The Sushi chef Ray is second to none . His food is exquisite. Take a look at the pics .
This restaurant has excellent food, with fresh sushi and consistently great service. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, as the restaurant is usually busy and seating is limited.
