My wife I have used Ume since they first opened (with a ceremony involving a large Chinese dragon dancing in the street.)The staff have always been friendly helpful in suggesting dishes or tailoring the menu items to suit personal taste- as the food is freshly prepared authentically cooked.Charlie, the owner chef often comes into the restaurant from the kitchen to invite feedback and contribute to the 'family run ' feel.The food has never disappointed, even when I have ordered 'off piste. I went here with my wife off the back of many reviews on here.Firstly, the restaurant is tiny, so if its quite empty, as it was for us, you need to keep your voice down or everyone can hear your conversation. There were 6 tables set up when we were there, this included two tables for 8, three tables for 4 and one for 2, which we were on.The service was good and the waiter was very approachable.Unfortunately, looking at previous reviews people made reference to great vegetarian options, which we were looking forward to as my wife is a veggie. Lovely cosy family run restaurant with some unique chinese dishes. Orange chicken, soft shell crab, smoked chicken are some of my favourites. As this is a family run restuarant all the dishes are made fresh so you can ask for less salt, no msg, no onions, more spicy and the chef is always happy to accomodate. I always like extra bean spouts in my noodles!My husband favourite is the special noodles extra crispy.

My husband and I have eaten at the restaurant and had bought take away food from Ume. The food always hits the spot for us, there is a good selection of dishes, the portions are a good size. We never leave hungry or disappointed. The staff are always friendly and helpful with our dietary requirements ans the chef has given us some yummy recommendations! Definitely will go back. Ordered a take away. Tasteless food. Very strange supposedly deep fried squid that was flabby with a thick coating. Sweet and sour pork was very bland, no flavour. The aubergine dish was horrible...they have probably made a mistake with the aubergine dish, as in we were wrongly given ‘aubergine with sea spiced sauce’

I came back from holiday and I just needed a nice meal and relaxed atmosphere to chill out after being away for the week, and ume has once again proven to be a perfect place to get that wonderful atmosphere thanks ume another great meal

Arrived with mum and daughter without booking and owner was happy to accommodate us. Ordered a variety of appetizers and a couple of mains with rice. All expertly cooked and well balanced. Highly recommend.
