Yesterdays not so Unique Sunday lunch My friends and I went to lunch and pre warned the restaurant that I was gluten free, so let's discuss that first... Allergies and intolerances are not a fad, for some people it can mean DEATH and as far as I know, there is no coming back from that. For me, eating something like gluten is at worse very uncomfortable AND because of the nature of it means it's hard to write among other things. So, I'm not dead and that has to be good right? I questioned all of the food. No flour, no stock cubes, it is gluten free? My soup was served with bread. My dinner when it eventually arrived had a stuffing ball on it In whose land are bread and a stuffing ball gluten...
The owners were well on the way to making this place the place to go .After a poor start they adapted quickly to local opinions, they change the cook and bar person that was giving them a bad reputation and started to invested in regular quality entertainers complimented by other events over the weekends. It certainly looked like it had started to pay off as the place was very busy when events were on and there were always,a steady flow of drinkers and dinners during other times,sufficient to warrant staying open which is quite an achievement in this area. For some reason they recently closed for a week and re opened with a totally different approach . The staff that brought in the customers...
We went here for breakfast today. It was very nice so we went back for an evening meal. Well firstly the place looks nice, it looks like the sort of place you want to eat in and not, like many places around here, like a transport cafe. Secondly, the staff are lovely, attentive and make you feel really welcome and relaxed. And most importantly the food is excellent. Simple food cooked really, really well and presented beautifully. All the other eateries in the area should take note, this is how it's done. To quote a certain Ms Turner, you're simply the best !
Doing a reckie for the lads pub crawl later today and this place looked a lot better than it did a year ago. It is Friday afternoon so very quiet. Decor had changed and we didn’t have to walk through a blanket of cigarette smoke this time. They told us they have regular entertainment so possibly give another try in the evening. Pleasant staff. Clean toilets. Nice coffee.
We went to Unique to see a live Reggae band, who were excellent, there was also a basic chicken and chips supper. However, I was very disappointed with smokers who ignored the no smoking signs. Even the bar staff lit up inside. There seemed no inforcement of their own rules. As I hate breathing carcinogens I will not be returning.
Was here today after the market. They really do make coffee exactly how I like it .. We had a toastada to go with it. Lovely friendly staff. The temperature today was 22 so we sat outside.. They could make more of the outside add more plants and soft music in the background.. But it is a nice place. I would recommend this place.
This is now Bar Unique and had a change in ownership in July 2017. The focus is on providing great food, drinks and entertainment at very affordable prices. Karaoke every Thursday and live music on Friday and Sunday evenings. See Facebook page Bar Unique for up to date information.
The new management have done a great job of the place. Great atmosphere, lovely food and well priced drinks. The staff are really friendly and there is regular entertainment! Lovely little spot with nice decor. Will definitely be visiting again!
Next to the happy gardens Chinese great to go to good entertainment good food nice and friendly staff. If you fancy a good day or night out would recommend.
