I have eaten at Villa Richard twice in the past few months. I would have rated the experience five stars until last night. I made a reservation for 7:30 for three and arrived right on time. The bar was full and the dining room was almost empty. We were asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or be seated. We chose to be seated. The server then requested that three people sitting at the bar now take their seats at their table and we were ushered to their seats at the bar. Drinks were ordered and a plate of finger foods was served. Over the next hour we watched as the server acted as bar tender, hostess and server. Richard Varese and the Villa Richard were an unequaled class act. It was more than a restaurant and he was so much more than a host. The entire night of drinks and dining was very special, and last spring, at the age of 92, Richard still came down the stairs to greet us, his age was unquestionably showing. The small cozy dining areas, the decor, incredible food, staff, and ambiance was unparalleled. The time spent at the bar with Richard explaining the menu was special. I hope they can open and keep this going but Richard was so much of the night and experience, good luck, and Rest in Peace Richard.
There's no better fine dining, anywhere, period. Places like this just don't exist anymore. From the moment you walk in, you're treated like royalty and fed like it too. There's no menu; you will be read the night's specials during pre-dinner drinks at the bar. The building is a beautiful old Victorian mansion overlooking the Delaware River. Richard and his staff are exceptional people and go out of their way to give guests the best experience. And they always deliver!
11/10 for food and ambience. Richard and Dean never disappoint. I have my birthday here every year and all my guest beg me for a reason to come back the rest of the year. Absolute top notch old school elegance, service, and an all around one of a kind experience that doesn’t exist in restaurants anymore. Start to finish a perfect service everytime!!!! Worked here as a bartender and waiter, ate here as well, miss Richard, he's an very interesting guy. I loved working here, by far the best server job I ever had, made lots of money and met a bunch of good people. Richard runs the place like he's inviting friends over for a dinner party. We had lots of regulars who came in every weekend.
Fantastic old school restaurant. Have enjoyed for many years. No restaurants like this exist anymore. Sadly, I learned Richard passed away some time ago and the restaurant is closed. Just wanted my rating to count as a testament to the perfect dining experiences I've had here over the years...
