It is quite incredible that this fantastic little restaurant is not better frequented. Perhaps diners have failed to appreciate that it is under new management and now represents a great value dining experience. Service is efficient, warm and friendly and the food! Try the lunch special: a first rate selection of mains, including Nasi Goreng, Singapore Noodles, Black Bean or Lemon Chicken, plus unlimited Chinese tea for a very modest $9.80. Portions are generous in size but it is well worth trying a few entrees as an extra before you start. All the offerings are delicious. We haven't yet tried Xing for dinner but if the entrees are anything to go by, the a la carte must be worth a few night...
We came here early in the week and I must say while the food was excellent the service lacked. There was only 2 other tables and we seriously didn't see our waitress for most of the night. If the waitress had have been more available I'm sure we would have spent more and order further dishes. So instead of 4 of us spending our expected $50-$60 a head the bill was $25 per head. Decor needs a serious update. But what food we got was woderful. It does make.me think twice about coming back though.
Dubious little shop front in Mentone and the décor could do with the services of a professional interior decorator but if you overlook the dimness in this little family run restaurant you will have yourself perfectly good Chinese food at a very reasonable price. Home made dim sims and chicken dumplings were especially yummy. Service is fine, BYO licence is handy, lots of parking around, happy to let you take home what you don't eat. Will return.
Craving some Yum Cha we decided not to go to one of our usual venues and instead to give a local restaurant a go. We ordered a number of usual staples from a good variety offered on their menu. Although the dishes presented all looked delicious they sadly lacked flavour. All were under seasoned and the table soy sauce was thick and quite tasteless. The fried dishes were too oily and the steamed ones too bland.

When this changed hands (from Golden Oscar ) the Malaysian influence was a very welcome improvement. Sadly, it didn't last, and I have to say the beef with ginger was chewy and tasted of bamboo shoot, not ginger, it was inedible. Haven't been back. Have to agree with another reviewer, a light soy on the table instead of thick and heavy would better. Sorry I couldn't rate this better.
The staff and chef had no idea what gluten free is. They checked with the chef and came back saying no there's no msg in the food. My husband is a coeliac and couldn't eat anything on the menu. The rest of us had a meal which was very nice and he went up the road and bought a take away gluten free meal and came back and ate it with us.
My son was wanting Chinese food for dinner. So we found this restaurant. I would have to say I will be back.All the options we chose were yummy. And well presented. Service was good. Please don't take much attention to the shop front. Inside is where it is at.It is a byo so that is extremely helpful.
Stumbled across this malay Chinese restaurant after being disappointed by the other options in the area. They have a wide range of options among plenty of the old favourites on the menu and all meals are reasonably priced. We will be making this our local Chinese restaurant from now on.

Love love love this place new-ish Mentone restaurant Every dish I've had has been spot on for flavour and freshness. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Reasonably priced.
Friendly staff and really yummy Malaysian and Chinese food. BYO allowed and liquor store is just next door. Try it out !
