Mamaroneck never disappoints with their amazing one of a kind restaurants and Zenzo Sushi yet another great restaurant. We were greeted and seated immediately and was able to pace our order quickly. Due to it being lunch time, we ordered the Sashimi Platter and a Maki roll of eel avocado and spicy tuna. The lunch specials came with the choice of soup or salad and they had a variety of drinks as well as a bar. The food was elegantly presented and the flavor of the food was as fresh as can be. This restaurant used to serve decent sushi, but unfortunately, the quality has declined significantly. The freshness of the fish is inconsistent; some days it's good, and other days, it's old and mushy with an unappealing gray tint. The portion sizes are disappointingly small, particularly the kani salad, which is barely satisfactory. I can't recommend the tuna pizza appetizer or the Hawaiian salmon either. The tuna pizza has a thick crust that overpowers the taste of the tuna, and the Hawaiian salmon feels poorly assembled with kani, giving the impression that the kitchen doesn't care about the dishes they serve. I had another wonderful dinner here. I ordered a mai tai to start, which was really fruity, coconuty, and strong! Just perfect. My friend ordered different pieces of sushi, and I ordered the chicken teriyaki Bento box. We both started off with salads that had nice cold crisp lettuce and fresh ginger soy dressing. It was a perfect start. My chicken teriyaki was extremely tender, and I loved the California rolls and shumai that was served with it. All the food was delicious and the vegetables were crisp. My friend thoroughly enjoyed all of her sushi, which looked extremely fresh and fabulous. Service was very good, everyone was very friendly and nice. It was a wonderful meal.
It started when there was a coupon for Yelp Monday through Thursday buy one special roll get the second half price. It's actually still posted on yelp. She refused to honor it saying that they haven't use that coupon for two years, yelp put it in without their permission, it's only for takeout, etc. etc. OK didn't fight. Ordered a few rolls, with brown rice. They were chewy, not fresh, not tasty, strange flavor. My friend agreed. The wine was OK. Limited service. At one point I was choking, took a while in the empty restaurant to get someone's attention to get some water. Luckily I didn't need the Heimlich too! Too many good restaurants in the area. I ordered sushi from Zenzo last night for the third time since being in Mamaroneck and was absolutely shocked in the worst of ways. I placed an online order and was given a total of $46 and change. Upon picking up my food, the total was $83. They apparently have offers on their website that they refused to honor in store. This is absolute fraud and I am disgusted by their business practices. And for mediocre sushi at best. Save the stress and go to Red Plum right across the street where you will find quality products and customer service. Zenzo is an absolute sham.
Looking around for a new sushi restaurant around the area, we ended up at Zenzo. Started with some Mai Thais (good) and lychee martinis (too sweet), both could have been better if added a bit more liquor. Moving on to the food, we ordered pork ygoza as an appetizer, and some Friday night, great Mamaroneck, California, shrimp tempura (favorite) and spicy girl rolls. Everything tasted delicious, will def come back. In the event you want to do take out, they offer a 15% discount.
I was really impressed! The yellowtail with jalapeño was presented in a unique way, but it still worked well. The gyoza was delightful, the rainbow roll was a fantastic burst of flavors, and the orange shrimp was outstanding. After a grueling workout, everything truly satisfied my cravings. I would definitely give this place a 10/10 and highly recommend it. Also, the sake selection is great!
One of the worst experiences I've ever had trying to order sushi delivered to my house, call the restaurant three times the woman who I spoke to said she would call back in every dead after two hours. Friday night. The place was full but not crowded. The worse service we have ever experienced. We placed our order after a 15 minute wait and enjoyed some miso soup. After waiting almost an hour we were still not served our entree, left $10 on the table and left.
