Our first visit to this restaurant was excellent, so good that we immediately booked the night after. The second evening there was a different set of waiting staff, who were all friendly and helpful, as per the first evening. The food was also excellent, as per the first evening, and value for money. The reason I won't give the review 5 stars (which is a shame) is down to the variance in charges over the drinks on the second evening from the first evening. I ordered a white glass of wine (1/8) from the menu (and I showed the item to the waitress on the menu) which was a Riesling at 2,80 euros. The charge on the bill was 4,80 euros? Even though a bit out of the centre of the town this place is worth walking or driving. The food was delicious with a home-like touch. The only small thing was that the ribs we had during our 2nd visit had quite a narrow cut so not much meat on. The fish (zander fillet) was superb. Wide selection of house wine with average quality. The service was prompt and excellent. The place itself is quite small so reserve a table to be on the safe side especially for the weekends. No English menu but the waiter explains everything. The toilets need a bit more frequent cleaning as it was quite smelly.
we were in the steirerwirt tonight. that found out to be a bit difficult, as the signs were partly snowed in. but the search was worth it. the leberknödelsuppe was very tasty. the swirl roast is different than expected, but tasted good and was super delicate. the backhendl is highly recommended. the leaflet salad consists of fresh salate and vegetables and is refined with pumpkin seed oil. still we sat in a small next room, the service was very attentive. the price-performance ratio we felt good. we'll be back.
Als wir nach einem Restaurant in Altmarkt suchten, belegte „Zum Steirerwirt“ auf TripAdvisor den zweiten Platz. Nachdem wir jedoch sowohl das Restaurant mit dem ersten Platz als auch „Zum Steirerwirt“ probiert hatten, ist „Zum Steirerwirt“ definitiv die beste Wahl! Das Abendessen war einfach großartig und auch der Wein war besser als das, was wir anderswo bekamen. Die Lage des Lokals ist ziemlich versteckt, am Ende des alten Marktes auf einem Campingplatz. Wir haben als Vorspeise steirische Antipasti (verschiedene Wurst- und Käsesorten) und als Hauptspeise Jungschweinbratl und Ripperl gegessen. Größe eher für Männer;-) und insgesamt sehr gut, aber jetzt auch kein Highlight. Wer gerne eine deftige Küche in rustikalem Ambiente hat, sollte vorbeischauen. Personal sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.
Enjoyed the food very much. The fish, meat and burger was really great. Also apfel strudel was the best compared to all tasted during vacations here. The service was amazing as the waiter spoke perfect english and was very helpful. Recommend this place!
