I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Jager Schnitzel with mushroom gravy, red cabbage, and German potato salad. The food was prepared quickly and the service was efficient. I particularly enjoyed the schnitzel and cabbage, although the potato salad was just average. They also served marble rye with butter. I chose their Pilsner to drink, which was crisp and refreshing. For dessert, I tried the apple strudel, which was okay but not very fresh or homemade - the pastry was soft and the vanilla sauce watery. This restaurant is absolutely fantastic. It was the best date night my wife and I have had in a long time. I had studied abroad in Austria during college and visited Germany a few times, so it was a delight to be able to enjoy German cuisine again. On Friday night, there was even an accordion player, creating the most amazing atmosphere. The interior of the restaurant is so cozy and authentically German, and the food was absolutely delicious. The Leberkäse and potato dumplings were perfection, and the beer was just right. We drove 30 minutes to get here, but it was definitely worth it. We will definitely be returning in the future.
I worked briefly in Mesa in 1988 and discovered a wonderful German restaurant, jump forward to 2023, I’m back in Mesa and thought “I wonder if that great German restaurant with the accordion player is still there?” Well it is!! Zur Kate looked just the same, might even be the same accordion player. Very authentic in food and decor, great service, German beers on tap. We shared the Zweibel schnitzel, two sides and rye bread, with a couple of Warsteiner Dunkels, we were stuffed and happy!
This restaurant is fantastic. The dishes we tried here were some of the best we have ever tasted at a restaurant. The atmosphere is very charming. The service was a bit slow, but they explained that they had a new chef who was still learning the menu. Despite that, the dinner was still outstandingly delicious. We will definitely be returning. I would recommend arriving right when they open on Fridays, as there was an hour wait shortly after. The prices are also very reasonable.
