We had an unplanned visit to this restaurant with my friends for a midday meal, and our experience left us thoroughly content! The owner, a Cretan Greek, greeted us with a warm smile and genuine care, instantly making us feel at home. The hospitality was truly remarkable and set a positive tone for the entire meal. Speaking of the food, the culinary offerings were exceptional. The flavors were truly authentic and indulgent, showcasing the evident passion and attention dedicated to the preparation of each dish. We were leaving Neuschwanstein and heading to Munich during lunch time. Found reviews to this place and were one of a very few patrons at lunch period. Thought we might have made a mistake. What a great mistake. The food was fantastic and fast. Everyone of our young picky eaters were face-deep in their food and as we were about to depart, they said we were to receive a complimentary yogurt dessert. This is good Greek food, and a nice departure from Bavarian fare. The service is terrific. As we were leaving, two of my five kiddos were asking to return. Can guarantee that soon, but we're are grateful to have had the fortune to enjoy it today.
We stumbled upon this place by accident as we were stopping to look at the Kloster on our way back to Munich. What a nice surprise. Genuine Cretan experience with a Cretan cook in the kitchen and super friendly Cretan waiter. About as authentic as you can get and the Gyros home made. Excellent salads. Fredo Espresso as in Greece. Worth stopping at and probably worth a detour.

Schöne Lage, freundliche Menschen, hervorragendes Essen. Was kann man sich mehr wünschen? Wir hielten für ein Getränk, blieben zum Abendessen und hatten eine tolle Zeit.
Have often eaten lunch in Steingaden but this was our first visit to Zur Taverne. Great friendly service. Good food and seasonably priced. Highly recommended!
