"The Volkshaus is a very popular place, in particular during summer due to its large garden that can accommodate up to 200 people and its large menu. However, during Christmas week, the restaurant operated with a scaled down menu that lacked imagination. Some of the dishes weren’t even available. The quality of meats was poor. Both the Schweinsschnitzel and the Zwiebelrostbraten (onion-topped roast beef with gravy) were tough, although the sauce for the latter was much better than expected. The chicken breast with ham and cheese was good but the risotto did not live up to our expectations. The risotto was bland with not the slightest hint of cheese. The French onion soup had a nice, strong flavor but the cheese was of low quality. The Weissburgunder from Skoff, a Styrian wine, was a good choice while the Blaufraenkisch lacked body. Unfortunately, the service was even a bigger biggest disappointment than the food. The young gentlemen did the bare minimum, made no effort to offer alternative dishes for one of our vegetarian friends, and was nowhere to be seen when we wanted to pay. Overall we paid E60 for 4. Compared to other local restaurants the Volkshaus is overpriced for the quality of food and service it offers. It may take a lot of convincing for me to return to this place."
