I have been to this restaurant many times over the years including my time as a resident of Charleston. While the atmosphere is still very good, the food on this trip was disappointing. Rue de Jean was well known to locals for the very best Truffle fries as an impressive starter for friends. Now they are limp and greasy versions of their past glory. They used to be served in a paper cone within a spiral holder, now they are in a steel cup with paper holder and hard to grab without poring them out on the plate. Mixed feelings about Rue de Jean. Good vibe and cool place, but very uneven service drinks always behind food so you were practically done with food when they arrived) — server seemed more interested in putting glasses away than making sure we had drinks in a timely manner. Sweetbreads disappointing with so much fried batter around them you couldn’t taste the sweetbread. Scallops were very good and perfectly seared without being overdone. Filet with truffle butter was allowed to rest too long. Butter not even melted on meat. Overall, ok but not great — and really a noisy restaurant when full
We enjoyed a delicious meal! We sat under the covered patio which may have been a bit quieter. The service wasn’t rushed but then neither were we. I started with a French 75 which was a treat. Then we split the potato truffle soup and the goat cheese salad. I went with the salmon and my husband had the scallops which were both delicious choices. For dessert we enjoyed the crème brûle. What’s not to like?! It was a lovely way to end the day in Charleston.
Always a real treat to meet old and new friends at Rue de Jean. Atmosphere is great, foot is top shelf, and service excellent. I am a little hard of hearing so the noise level when the restaurant starts filling up is a little difficult for me. Typically I have my food by the time the noise level increase, so not doing a whole lot of talking.

I had the escargots that were delicious. The shells marinated were good, but not as good as the aiolims. Unfortunately, it is no longer in the menu. Bring back the Aiolimushels
The Sunday night amount was more underestimated than other nights of the week, but still the noise level is disturbing. However, the service and food were great.
Very good Caesar Salad. Hamburger would have been tasty, but was overcooked. Wife and friends had pork chops saying it was good. Total good food service.
Our last two visits there we’re not very good food was lousy. This visit the food was stellar they certainly have stepped up their game.
