I have been long waiting to get my hands on proper Iraqi food especially the mazgouf. I have heard from Iraqi people. It's known to be the most famous Iraqi dish. Mazgouf, is a fish dish made of carp from the Tigris River in Iraq. The carp is cut open and lightly smoked over charcoal fire. We got a taste of this with solid grilled barramundi fish cooked just the way it should be on open fire. You could feel it with the unique smell of the coal that gets into it. With raw chilli, lettuce and cucumber dipped in vinegar with onion salad on the side. hassan mahady opened al dhiaffah al iraqi in fairfield in 1997, and then, perhaps it was sydney's first Iraqi restaurant. two decades later, this modest restaurant still serves Iraqi spears at sydneysiders. Although some more Iraqi restaurants in sydney will appear in the coming years, including fairfield neighbor kebab abu ali. we are warmly welcomed and plucked into a table of our choice, surrounded by high-altitude chairs. the walls are covered with fading monochrome images of the old Iraq that make a beautiful change of colorful pictures of the Iraqi civil war and the isis that grace our television screens. we'll help.
We were a group of four having lunch on a Saturday. The service was very good even though it was very busy at a certain point with full tables and people coming to pick up fresh bread and food. Staff quickly told us we would have enough with 2 plates, so we ordered a kebab combination, the roasted fill in lamb with fasolina, a salad and the yoghurt shakes. Fresh bread is also served hot and freshly made as soon as you arrive. Everything was absolutely delicious. We were very happy and satisfied. The food is fantastic value for money and I would definitely recommend and come back again in the future!
this place is very popular at lunchtime and the one man was constantly on the phone, so service could be slow, but eating was very valuable. the kebabs had a lot of delicate meat and a lot of salate and apron and brot, although I preferred the similar Afghan kebabs I had recently when they were more spiced. the lamb in a bung rice was wonderfully tender and came with a separate tasty bean stew, so I would say even better than the kebabs, although either dish makes for a great meal. Sydney's oldest Iraqi feed, decades on, and still pumping strong. Don't be intimidated, the menu is compact and pretty accessible. Ease yourself in with a mixed plate that comes with atomic green red radish and green pickles, wrap them in house made flat bread. Stretch yourself a little with a gigantic lamb stew with hearty flat bread soaked in.
food quality very low, huh was raw, adana was tasteless and there is no service apart from someone coming and putting food on their table. roti was dry and looked like it came from another table. please don't waste their time and money!
After reading some great reviews of this restaurant, I decided to try it. we went in and quite a lot were ignored until I asked if we were sitting somewhere?.
