The ambiance, service, and cocktails at Aphotic were all exceptional, but I was left disappointed by the 10-course Tasting Menu at the Chef's Counter. I only found four of the ten courses enjoyable, with the standout being the Hokkaido milk bread served with lobster hollandaise sauce. Unfortunately, many of the courses lacked both flavor and creativity, particularly the abalone, which came with a cloudy and tasteless dashi. I struggled to finish the dashi, and the server seemed surprised to see that my bowl was still more than halfway full. Despite this, the outstanding service made the experience worthwhile! I'm hopeful for improvements in the upcoming tasting menu!
Very glad that we get to come here towards the end of our trip in SF. We really enjoyed the beautiful space and ambience.The tasting menu is very well put together. All the dishes were amazing and perfectly done. Several extremely unique signature dishes that we never forgot their flavors. The risotto dish and oyster ice cream really stand out for me. The cocktail menu is also nicely crafted and unique.
Food is pretty good, highly recommend include wine pairing.The only part that can be improved is service. One server put utensils on wrong side, gave me empty wine glass when the next dishes don’t have wines, and also plans to take the dishes when I was still working on it… never experienced those things in other MichelinBesides that I would say this is a nice place, might come next time for cocktails.
I only give 4 stars to service because I 100% know that they can provide even more stellar service than they amazing experience they already provide. From this point on it is only about refining the class and decorum of the near impeccable service that Greg and Trevan provide. We spent nearly 4 hours at this restaurant and could not be more satisfied with what we found.

We had an exceptional experience for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant is beautiful, and the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive without being intrusive—formal yet warm. The wine pairing was an exciting journey, and I appreciated the detailed explanations provided. The seafood tasting menu was truly inspired, creative, and absolutely delightful.
Each course was a presentation of edible art. The most unusual dish was oyster ice cream which had me skeptical at first, but turned out to be as tasty as it was novel. Aphotic has a distillery license which allows them to concoct bespoke cocktails using botanicals. They should have 3 MIchelin stars in the future.
Excellent new addition to the SoMa dining scene. Seriously good service with delicious and sophisticated food. Also a great wine cellar and creative cocktail program. Current prices are fair and reasonable, which is good, as I had decided to stay away at the announced opening prices.
My partner and I came here for a date night last night, and we were blown away! I highly recommend the cocktail tasting menu, it was an amazing experience with no disappointments. I also recommend the banana tiramisu for dessert. We will definitely be back!!

An amazing unique experience during our Cocktail Tasting w/ Michael N. Can’t forget about our wonderful host, Nathan too! We were treated like royalty in this gorgeous environment with the most creative ingredients and stories. Unbelievable. Wow.
