We had dinner tonight, for the first time in a long time, at the Austin. We ordered a cod burger with fries and coleslaw and calamari with ceasar salad and coleslaw. The cod burger was really good as was the coleslaw and ceasar salad. But the calamari tasted like salty batter and not much like squid. Perhaps I should have ordered deep fried batter! The service was adequate, really the minimum necessary to take orders and get the food to the table. The decor is primarily left overs from the previous owner with various bits of equipment situated at the convenience of the staff and clearly visible to the customers. Atmosphere =0! Stopped in here on a Saturday just past lunch time. Lots of choices on the menu and my wife and I were both intrigued by the scallops and chips for $12.99. Large portions, fresh, home made coleslaw and six big scallops looked awesome. The batter was thicker than we like it and once you peeled the batter off, the scallops were about half sized from the way they first appeared. But, the batter wasn't greasy (which we hate), the fries were good and everything was piping hot. We both decided that it was pretty good but not as good as our "Go To Place" which is also in Mission. We ordered take out ahead of time and although it wasn't quite ready when we arrived, I had plenty of time to check out this "new to me" establishment. What was once the old Brownies Chicken once upon a time has been refurbished to look like a more modern bistro. The floor plan is open and the floors are done out in a groovy paint job. Very inviting atmosphere. I was greeted by both the chef and the host who knew exactly what I was there for. The food was delivered neatly wrapped in newsprint in a box with our sides and drinks. The Wild Cod is a meal in itself let alone the crisp chips and light coleslaw. Austin's house made tartar sauce is also a creamy blend that dresses all quite nicely....
We are always seeking the very best Fish n' Chips every where we travel. Lo and behold we have the BEST right in our town of Mission, B.C. Wow, they've got the crispest fish batter that doesn't go soggy, great home cut fries and creamy yet tangy homemade coleslaw. We like cod and our serving was FANTASTIC.....huge pieces of fish too. For those with a huge appetite they offer "All you can eat"!!! No need to look any further than Mission's Austin Fish n' Chips when you've got a craving .....you seriously won't be disappointed AND you'll tell all your. Family and friends AND you'll be back. We were very welcomed, great friendly service, very attentive. Meal was super, fish (cod & chips) were wonderful, cooked to perfection. Price was reasonable and the quantity was sooooo there!!! The best fish & chips we have had in a long time. We were so full when we left and stayed full for the evening which is good. Will certainly make a visit again when we are in town.
there a little pricy not bad fish a little bit to grease could be much better for the price they must pay attention to the fish fry please get it right if you want people to come back more then once very good fish bad fry great menu the fist was crispy to much oil ,let it drain well will try again like most of there food
Awesome fish and chips, non greasy, fries are fresh and crispy, the fish batter is light and done to perfection, service is very attentive, friendly, nice ambience, clean, comfy, a 10 outta 10
Have had both takeout & dine -in. Service is very good & excellent quality of seafood.Take out always arrives hot wrapped the old way in newspaper.Seems to be busy at most times.
Really enjoyed my fish dinner there. Had plenty to eat and my companions had their fill. Crispy fish just the way I like it.
