The "Landgasthof Bären" is a 3star hotel and restaurant which goes back to the early 15th century! This tavern was well known already during the times where postal carriages stopped here with their travelers. If you really want to enjoy traditional swiss food you have to eat here. I can highly recommend the various menus from venison/deer. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent.
On our way to meet a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy we passed through Sumiswald, famous as the place the SBB station clock is made, looking for lunch during a global pandemic that has closed most restaurants. The very friendly (and COVID safe) Baren restaurant was...great! We enjoyed our rösti and salad choices. Value for money is about typical for Switzerland, CHF for three persons for lunch

From the local "Berner Platte" to "Rösti" to "Sliced veal" and "Meringue mit Nidle" dessert they serve it all.
