This is the first in a long line of restaurants coming off the beach in Valras all the restaurants are of a similar price but we have to admit that this is on of the better ones. As we only live 40 mins away fro Valras we visit regularly and eat here or at La phare just around the corner. As it is by the sea sea food makes up most of the menu so if all you like is meat you may be disappointed there is steak and pizza on the menu but it is the fish that reigns supreme. I always find myself despairing a bit when at a seaside place with restaurants lined up shoulder-to-shoulder. At Valras-Plage, the main hub is a pedestrianised wide street/small square leading up from the beach, with exactly that lay-out. Le Sud is first one from the beach, didn't seem to charge extra for this location, and had seafood cassoulet on the menu - and we had been desperately trying to find a place serving cassoulet all week.As it were, the cassoulet was the only disappointment to our visit - seafood was OK, but the cassoulet part was just a very thick, creamy sauce with no depth of flavour. We actually had a great meal here. It is one of the many tourist trap restaurants in Valras-Plage but we had a really good meal. My daughter had a pizza that was average, the boys shared a burger that was good and my wife and I each had a dish of mixed fish that was excellent. The service was absolutely fantastic and the girl that served us could not have been friendlier and more helpful. The puddings were great too and my wife and I shared the brioche (sweet and tasty) and the kids' banana split was huge! On the down side there is only one toilet so you might have to queue. There is seating indoors and out in the street in a covered area.

The prices of the 3 course menu (13.90 euros) and liter-sized pichet of wine (8.50 euros) were so low that we almost passed on this restaurant. However, we would have made a big mistake had we done so. The service was friendly, the waitress spoke English, and the bill was brought promptly after the dessert and coffee. We ate here both nights as we could imagine no place being better for the price. The duo de poissons a la plancha contained shark and dorade the night were were there. Both perfectly prepared.
Took my wife and two young children to dinner here one evening and was very impressed. Quick service, friendly and excellent mussels. We returned two evenings later and had dreadful service. It took an age to take our starters away and then after another age it turned out they had lost our main course order. They rushed it out fairly quickly after that, but the quality was lower than our previous visit, and the mussels were below par. I doubt we will eat here again.
The food was mediocre (grilled dorade was bitter, accompanied by boiled rice!?!) A good point was the children's menu, with a greater than usual choice of dishes (and not only the usual steak achete and chicken nuggets)The restaurant was very busy for dinner, but it turns out this is mainly beacuse of its position on the main pedestrian avenue (1st on the left, coming from the beach) rather than its kitchen.
Another friendly helpful and good value restaurant. Been here a dozen or so times in past 10yrs. The service and quality have not changed. If anything getting better. .
