Strange as it might sound, I arrived at Benito 's to attend a piano recital (on the patio) for my grand-daughter. For all the times I have driven through Hilliard on Main St., I never knew this pizzeria existed. That fact was my loss. While my daughter-in-law and I sat on the patio with about 25 other folks, we listened to young piano students play for their families. Before the recital began, Liz (owner of Benito 's) approached our table and asked if she could bring us any drinks. My immediate reaction was how friendly was and told me not to worry about the bill at that moment and just come into the bar prior to leaving. This is a pretty unique place that is hard to describe. Being in this bar is like being invited to a party at the owner's house. It is definitely a bar with pizza and other bar food, but Liz, the owner is the host, cook and bartender. She is a sweetheart who clearly cares about her bar and her customers. The bar itself is very small, warm and inviting. Lots of regulars and I can tell you that there are other bars a couple hundred yards away but you would never know it. This place is truly unique. It resembles a small house that has been transformed into a cozy bar and pizza spot on a quiet residential street in Hillard. The atmosphere is very laid-back, with many regular customers, and the owner, a lovely lady from Brazil, is exceptionally friendly. The pizza is indulgent and delicious. Updated Benito's review Liz is still effin' awesome. Even though this is clearly a pizza joint, I had never had their pizza. Always got stuck on the Dunca's or the sammiches. I ordered the Bianca pizza. Holy. Freaking. Goodness. I would totally give this a 4.5 stars if I could. It was just...extremely delicious. Also learned that Liz makes her own tomato sauce from her garden...that explains some deliciousness, too. Still a fun patio to go and relax on, quiet and laid back.
Delicious. It does take longer then most pizza places, defiantly worth the wait though. The pizza dough was obviously hand tossed, the sausage seemed to be house made also. Our salad was great, chopped crisp lettuce, salami, pepperoni l, onions, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and some sort of italian seasoning. Delicious! Would recommend for some looking for truly home made pizza :
This gem in downtown Hilliard is tough to find but worth stopping by. It's run by the nicest lady I've ever met. She'll make you feel right at home. All the food is homemade and definitely worth trying. The place only seats about 20 on the inside but there's a nice patio with lights for about 30 people. It's a perfect place to stop while on a bike ride through downtown Hilliard.
When we entered the restaurant, we simply chose a table without being greeted or spoken to for about five minutes, which made for an awkward start as we seated ourselves. The pizza was merely average. We ordered garlic bread along with a medium pizza topped with half pineapple and half banana peppers, but there weren't many toppings to speak of. Liz it the best person ever. Let's start there... if you're looking to have the best night and hang out for some beers come see Liz, like I said earlier she's the best. This place is cool. If you think differently, well maybe you're wrong.
