Dropped in for dinner last night. Like any good dive, there 's that air of I wouldn 't bring a date here mixed with the smells one gets when you eat at a place called Big Guys Sausage Stand in the first place. I 'm learning that Oak Park and Berwyn have a ton of great places to eat cheap meats, and Big Guys is no exception. I had the Italian sausage on garlic bread, a 1/4 pound burger, and a large fries to split with my wife. The burger was a little too done for my tastes, but otherwise, this was a solid first visit. Obsessed! I saw these guys on the Bobby Flay Show, so I thought I would try. I have the buffalo chicken with the ranch because the guy at the counter suggested it and said that the Italian sausage is made in the house. I was so happy because it was so damn good. The frits were freshly cut like Gene and Judes, except better. My husband got the cheddar brat, who was huge (too big for me). He loved it and took a nap as soon as we came home. I also have to add that I thought it was really nice if the guy on the counter saved me a few bucks. I wanted to order a hot dog for my toddler, and instead of paying the full price for only the dog no bread, he said they were selling the hot dog for only $1...
Searched this place out based on rave reviews and wasn't disappointed. The Flintstone wasn't available (sounds like it was a limited time deal from a while back) so I tried the Birria Burger and a Maxwell St Dog instead, absolutely killer. Going home to take some Lipitor good. Ambiance makes it. Methhead plumber arguing with his wife and his wife giving it right back 10x. Both got their food and haven't made a peep since, so take that for what it's worth.
Don't let the size fool you, it's big. To be specific it is a big deal for your taste buds to stop buy Big Guys Sausage Stand. Be sure to ask what is on special, there is more than just on the menu. I had the split pea soup, that comes with crispy croutons. The soup hit the spot on a cool cloudy day, with the chunks of ham and all the flavors. The shrimp Pierre was stellar and works with the Mickey sauce as much as the cocktail sauce.

It used to be better, not sure what happened. The butter garlic fries were mediocre way over done and under salted. Had the classic burger which was good. Also ordered 1/2 lb of shrimp piere, the person taking my order messed up and charged me for one pound. This came with a 1/2 filled container of cocktail sauce that didn't make it through 1/2 of the shrimp which tasted like chicken. Time to change the oil.
The outside (and inside, frankly) are deceptive. It looks like a dive grease trap, but the food here is *chefs kiss*. I got gumbo with shrimp, and the shrimp were grilled til they were crispy and so packed with flavor I did a double take. The lamb sausage is fantastically seasoned and the toppings are the perfect accompaniment.
I have had better. I ordered a sausage and the bread was stale and it looked more like a hotdog than a sausage. The taste was OK, nothing to right home about.
Food is great, sometimes they have a hard time keeping up with orders because they are so busy so budget some extra time during peak hours.

Nice shop, the food was great. I like the variations of the dogs and the fries and onion rings very good.
