Found this place to be very pleasant in appearance and inviting. Staff were friendly and never pretentious which makes everything better. We had beef burgers that looked sensational but the buns were a bit dry and the meat patties a little dry. This burger needs more sauciness, but it comes with a yummy side sauce for the chips so that went into my burger and made it that much better. The chips were delicious and my French earl grey love tea was very special. The decor and staff are very inviting but the front door blowed open all the time so with the concrete floors and rustic tables and chairs it feels cold. Lovely family-friendly addition to Altona - it's fast become our regular weekend brunch place in addition to a pit-stop before the commute to work. Consistent high-quality coffee. Great all-day breakfast menu - with some lunch options too - and an ever changing weekly special. Recommendations include Breakfast Pumpkin Gnocchi, Breakfast Burrito, Apple Crumble Pancakes (if you enjoy a sweet hit first up) or the Beef Burger from the lunch menu would be the picks. Little play area for the kids also provides enough distraction to grab a second coffee! Can be a touch busy mid-morning on the weekend, but worth any wait! Highly recommended.
Lattes I've had here have all been A1. We've had breakfast here, probably a week or two after it opened. I ordered the Birdcage Special (which is essentially a "big breakfast"). It was good without knocking my socks off. Perhaps brisket was a little dry. My Partner ordered some improvised Gnocchi breakfast thing which was not that great. Gnocchi was poorly cooked. We will definitely come back here for food, given it is the only urbane café within walking distance of our house.
Nice cafe to visit. Had brunch there today with my 6 year old son. He enjoyed his pancakes and I enjoyed my mushroom stack(? Not sure of the correct name). The atmosphere was great, calm and relaxing. Would be a great place to catch up with a couple of friends or with a partner. The only downside is a limited menu with what I would refer to as gourmet/speciality food. No real option for just a simple, plain meal such a eggs on toast or as I was hoping for eggs florentine. Ive visited Birdcage a few times in the last month or so with a couple of different friends.Coffee is good (they're open from 6.30am so I can gratefully get a good coffee first thing before work) The food has been good, last time was a bit bland but other times very nice. Be great to have more vegan food on the menu (scrambled tofu etc) Friendly staff, this is now becoming a busy little cafe! Well done!
Well this place is buzzing & I could see why! Had breakfast outside because inside was full. A few selections of herbal tea available & tried white rose & goji - delicious!! Was going to suggest that you add Chai tea to the menu but I wouldn't have tried the white rose :)Delicious good sized breakfast meals. See photos. What a great addition to Harrington Square. We need more of these cafes !!
Called into this cafe on Sunday whilst out walking and were pleasantly surprised. We decided to try an egg and bacon roll with our coffee. Egg was probably not cooked long enough for my liking but the rest of it was good, served on brioche bun. Coffee was good and we were served by a very pleasant young lady.
If you are ever in Altona, love a great coffee served by the most friendly & attentive staff and enjoy a very inventive menu then Birdcage in Harrington Square near Westona railway station is a must visit. It is little wonder it had become a favourite with the locals. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Friendly and efficient staff make this an great place to have a coffee or light lunch. But beware the Apple Crumble Pancakes are simply moreish. You will not want, nor be able to, eat anything else.
