le bistrot d’eglise felt like a small oasis of rest, just over the drongs, which pushed through the tourist traps of saintes maries. perhaps the fact that it is on the church square, but it is also the atmosphere of the unhurried rest created by the owner. we had a...veggie salat plate nicely joined together and very filling and a hard fish steak. at 19 € this was at the upper end of the price range, but fully justified by its size and perfect preparation. the lemon crispy delivered a very tangy dessert. I was wondering it would work better with vanilleeis instead of (as served) lemon sorbet, and on the chat with the owner it seemed that he had the same thought. another visit is only worthwh...
we arrived at 11 o'clock and the girl seemed much more interested in preparing for lunch than visiting us. we sat on a table and she was stressed and led us to a table for 2. we told her that there were 4 of us (the other 2 closely followed) but she insisted that we sit there and (literal) 2 more chairs pulled to a small table. if she had been deprived, this would not have been a problem. the coffee was nice, but not back. a smile would not go amiss
one of the most rude things in the city. or better said they don't give a s. about you. Of course, there is no English menu and of course they don't speak English, and of course they couldn't take care of you less. So we had no chance to taste her food, because we had no idea what they offer, so we went away. howrd people who run a hospitality business. I suggest they take another business line. the transition with cuatoms is not its strong point.
In the middle of the touristic hotspot of the Camargue, but unlike a lot of restuarants in such places, this did not feel like a rip off: great location, friednly staff, very good food, reasonable price.

Whilst SM de la M is heaving in the summer months, this bistro offers a tranquil reprieve. The choice is good, the staff friendly and helpful. A good selection also for non meat eaters.
