Why is this pub busier than it deserves to be? This is a pub masquerading as a snooty restaurant with reliable, if uninspired, food and decent service — if you can make it past the generally condescending attitude of the greeter. Reservations are absolutely required and even sometimes successfully made if they bother to answer the phone or call you back. We attempted to make a reservation several hours prior but were forced to leave a voicemail. No one called back so we took our chances and showed up at our selected time. Seemed like a great idea at the time. We had a good time with the group we went with (table of 8), but the food and especially service were lacking. I had the Poke Bowl, and my wife had the Market Halibut Chips. Both were disappointing. Fish and chips were greasy and no longer hot, Poke lacked flavour. One of our friends also had to send back their steak as it was far overdone and waited more than 45min for a replacement, (by which time we'd all eaten). UT was also surprisingly hard to get drink service. We had a group that was looking to drink and chat the evening away after dinner but couldn't get a server's attention. I visited the Black Fin Pub recently and was pleasantly surprised by the incredibly friendly staff. They were attentive and accommodating, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, I must admit that I was disappointed with the quality of the food. Despite the warm service, the dishes fell short of my expectations and were rather lackluster. It's great for a friendly gathering, but the culinary experience might leave you wanting more.
Very slow service with the couple on the adjacent table, who'd ordered well after us, being served before. My wife had the chowder, said it was OK. I ordered the $21 seafood enchiladas. These were flauta size, served in a small dish within a big plate. The sauce, I suspect, was made with condensed cream of tomato soup with added spices. Fish Tacos were disappointing, the greens in the tacos were brown and wilted, not much flavor and the Ceasar salad was soggy with dressing. We asked to substitute the salad for a cup of their Seafood Chowder but were told they only sold the chowder by the bowl not the smaller cup size so we didn't get to try it and it seemed to be an unusual and restrictive policy.
The fish and chips was honestly disappointing. I paid the market price for the fresh cod, it was crispy however the fish itself was very dry and required a lot of tartar sauce. Although a great portion, and amazing service, just disappointed in the low quality of the food for the price.
Outstanding food and ambiance but even more outstanding the was the service! Sam our server was fabulous along with everyone else who helped. Everyone went above and beyond. I can't recommend this place enough. We will most definitely be back!
