There is no shortage of eccentric places in Newtown, in fact the whole suburb is full of enigma or some may say character. So when I stepped inside Blacksheep, I was not going to question what the hell the decoration was supposed to be. Animal skulls, a large portrait of Kramer from Seinfeld on the mentalpiece, dark lights, nothing suggested an obvious theme, but everything randomly yet effectively worked together. The drinks were mainly wine and craft beers. The bar staff patiently took orders from our group of 6 girls, some beer drinkers and others wine. He made recommendations when necessary and after a long 10 minutes we all got a drink in hand and happily settled...
This is one of my favourite bars in Newtown when I'm in the neighbourhood.
Dimmy lit lighting with dark wooden furniture and dark walls to create that mysterious vibe, as you walk into this inner city bar. At the back of the bar, there used to be couches but now replaced with long gorilla dining table to cater for a larger group of people. The one thing I love about this place is... You can sit at this bar drink and play board games as if you're at a friend's place drinking. Such a laxed atmosphere!
The food menu is simple but tasty and perfectly accompanies the drinks, and reasonably priced, though I'm always astounded at how the humble snack like fries with aioli can fetch premium pric...
Pretty chilled bar. First time visit, there are alot of tables in this bar which is a good thing when you have to catch up with friends. The place reminds me of a dive bar.
Order at the bar and they shall bring out your cocktails when ready.
The mood lighting is very dim so you can leave all those work related matters at the door and just enjoy yourself.
Not quite sure what the theme is but lots of interesting nick naks placed around the place. I particularly like the Kramer picture at the back of the wall.

Thursday night and there's a woman singing with a great voice, accompanying herself on guitar. Really love live music and that there are some venues in Sydney that are doing this. We stopped in for a quick drink. My mate had a darker beer, and I had a pilsner. The vibe is good, kind of a relaxed sort of rustic living room thing going on. I'll have to try the food sometime.

Not entirely sure what it was that I drank as my friend did the ordering, but I asked for a mocktail version of anything on the menu. Whatever it is the bartender did, they did a great job. The drink was delicious and refreshing. My friend did have alcohol in hers but it too was pretty good. Awesome vibe to the place, and you can tell it really livens up at night, as they did the light dimming around 7pm and the place was buzzing.
Love this tiny bar, brings a chilled and local vibe with the ever changing beers on tap.
I love the artwork and the live music that's on now and then. staff are super lovely and chilled out, perfect for any recommendations. Definitely coming here more often

A great little bar in the heart of Newtown. The service is friendly, the cocktails are amazing and the ambiance is hip yet comfortable. They have a fantastic range of delicious cocktails and if you have tequila shots, be sure to ask for the coriander and japaleno chaser. Delicious!
Great drinks and great customer service. The cocktail menu has variety and the bar guys are great mixologists always coming up with new concoctions. I had the voodoo doll which I was told only invented that day was delicious and I drank it very fast!

AMAZING cocktails with great seasonal shared dishes. Relaxed environment with friendly staff on central King St. Always my go to bar in Newtown - throw your cocktail or wine choice over to the bar staff - they're passionate and extremely talented.
Amazing cocktails. The bartenders really know their stuff. Welcoming, great look to the place as well. Plus there is an ever changing menu. Best small bar in Newtown.
