A friend and I visited Born in Brunswick for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The first and decor of the restaurant is beautiful. It is light and airy, but wasn't very warm, even though we were sitting near an air conditioner.I ordered the brisket on a brioche bun and my friend ordered gluten free toast and eggs. I love brisket as it is soft and juicy and delicious but this brisket seemed like it had been cooked and then fried, so it was tough and dry. I was picturing it being served as a burger from how it was described on the menu but the bun was served in two halves, with different toppings on both halves. My wife and I decided on a spontaneous lunch today, for which we don't have the best track record, thanks to a combination of parking impossibility in the CBD and the popularity of our favourite places. So we ventured up to North Hobart where there's two hour parking on the street, and came upon Born in Brunswick. It was busy and bright, always a good sign, but I initially felt bound for disappointment as I scoured the menu. We had the most amazing lunch here this week. Gorgeous interior styling, cafe had a very happening but relaxed feel. The menu is very cheffy and explained in detail. This might be overwhelming for non-foodies, and even for some foodies, but just trust the chefs, because boy do they know what they're doing!I had the pork and seaweed broth and it was epic!! Beautifully complex in flavour and texture, it was such a treat. You could literally taste the love and care that went into making it. Was excited to try after hearing a lot of hype. Paid good money for a fancy sounding wallaby shank meal which sounded really substantial from the description. When the plate came out it was 3 tiny arancini balls. The balls were cooked well but I was frustrated to find 2 out of the 3 didn't have any wallaby meat at all inside - the meals key ingredient. Table staff were rude and disinterested, they got my coffee order wrong and no one checked in to see how we were going. Expected more after almost an hour wait. Other meals very average. Roomy venue with interesting decor. Can't comment on parking as we walked. Service moderately fast. Wallaby shanks/arancini were delicious. Overall a smaller dish than the others but the taste was worth it. The mushrooms and eggs were very nice too (and great wild rice poppadum like things!). Dessert was the coffee pannacotta and icecream with a hint of oregano. Pannacotta was delicious but icecream was...interesting. I thought it was odd rather than really tasty but others liked it. Great experience overall and would go again.
Popped in for brekky..liked the set up.lots of light..was seated and ordered the crispy chicken on a brioche bun with cabbage coriander slaw n kimchi dill pickles and bbq SZECHUAN sauce..nice combination of flavours...i must metion that when my partner n me went to sit at a table of 4 the waiter told us that we should move to a table of two..BUT 5 minutes later the table of 4 was taken up by another couple of two...GO FIGURE???
Took my family for a brunch after hearing good review. Good thing i listened. No booking on this place so better be early, place is always full so be prepared to wait but worth it. Recommend you get the Pork Slab and Spiced hotcake. You wont be dissapointed. The place is fresh looking and bright. Perfect brunch!!!!

Had the most delicious lunch this week. The pork shoulder ramen broth was my fave, but the wallaby shank was also amazing & the choc/coffee panacotta was the perfect way to finish. Beautiful decor, friendly attentive wait staff. Couldn't fault it!
