Tiny serves on big plates with even bigger prices. Minimal vegetarian dishes to choose from, fortunately, we eat fish. The pasta like rissotto prawn entree tasted so bad we were unable to finish it. There was no subtlety in the dish at all, it tasted like concentrated fish sauce.Then came the solo small fillet of swordfish with no friends, served on a big plate with about a dessert spoon of some scraggly stuff underneath. The fish tasted delicious but at $44 and nothing to go with it, it was small consolation. We had to order the potatoes to fill the plate a little. They were nice. Bottega is a non-pretentious Italian restaurant that serves up some fantastic food, by down to earth servers, by some of the hardest working, creative chefs in the area. I have eaten at Bottega three times, and all three times the food was very tasty, beautiful to look at, and was served by staff that were glad to be there and happy to be waiting on me. The last time I was there, there was a small mistake with the order, but to Bottega's credit, the owner more than made up for the over-site. It's usually not about how a business delivers when everything is going right, but it's more about how they make things right when something goes wrong. Went there last night and was excited to have great Italian food, but was disappointed. We ordered to the gnocchi and the seafood pasta. The gnocchi was under seasoned and the pasta needed to be cooked a bit more to be considered al dente. To top it off, there was hair in the pasta, and when tried to catch the waiter to request a replacement, we couldn't get her attention for 10 mins. By then, enough was enough, and we went to another restaurant for dinner because we were still hungry.
What a fantastic little restaurant. Five chefs, frantically working in a small area to produce some fine foods. First dinner I have had in Melbourne, and I hope the rest are as good. I had the filet, which was more like a pound of glorious meat, my buddy had the lamb. We shared, and they were both great. Service was good, one mistake on the water but they corrected fast and nicely. Pricey, but well worth it. Fantastic.
Really wanted to love the place. Started off really well and the Baccala was very good. The gnocchi was average and we found a hair in the seafood pasta. Service, though good, was painfully slow, especially when you see a hair and are trying to grab attention. Taking a hairy pasta off our bill seemed like a favor with no apology. : can see why it's liked but not for us.
Modern italian restaurant on Burke St. When its warm they setup sidewalk tables which is a very pleasant way to have a late lunch on a sunny day. The Good: Baccala and potato croquettes very good Char grilled sweet corn with chili garlic butter very good The Average: Spinach and beet salad good but nothing special

Had dinner here and the pork belly blew my mind. Also, the berry cheesecake dessert, which I was told is a new addition to the menu, is simply to die for!!
Had a very solid lunch here last week. The seafood dishes were well prepared and service was excellent.
