we went for a 'french' lunch on a saturday (there is a brocante further down the village every saturday so it's a good day to go) we went early - 12.15 and ate from the normal menu de jour. it's boring inside, the staff not overly bothered, it was cold and the lighting and decor pretty dull, we were squashed into a tiny table, next to another couple at a table for two when there were plenty of larger tables available.we had a meat platter to share to start - the pate was nice, the various saucisson was fridge cold and i'd guess came from packets. my husband had steak which was dreadful. This was recommended to us by our B and B hosts. The black walls and funky decor made us wonder. The waitress didn't speak much English but was very friendly and googled her way to explanations. She said they were known for their "sheche" or cuttlefish. I ordered that and saved room for dessert. My husband ordered appetizers and I think the waitress felt bad I didn't have one and brought me a little bowl of stuff I didn't recognize until I took a closer look. It was baby octopus. To my surprise I ate it and enjoyed it. We were so grateful to experience this little piece of local color with good food and fantastic staff. A memorable night for us.
There are not that many places where you can have a dinner in the old centre of Villeneuve les Avignon. Brasserie Saint Marc tries to accomodate the middle of the road kind of public. It is not bad nor good. It is a terrible nondescript sort of place where you can have a drink or a meal. Don' t expect a real nice glass of wine or a lovely dinner in a warm atmosphere. This is not the brasserie where you ever would like to go again. Even how much they try, this brasserie doesn't provide the basics well: the service is not welcoming or interested , and the simple food is prepared without any intent to make you happy.
Perhaps it's because my French is not all that great and we came with children, but I didn't feel warmly welcomed here. The chips were greasy and looked as if they had been sitting around before being served, and things did not improve much when the main course arrived, at which point we just gave up and left. I explained the problems to the management and everyone was very polite about it, but it's not a good place to eat when there are so many good alternatives nearby.

We received a very friendly welcome in this restaurant. The decor is modern but you can see the thick stone walls.The menu was interesting. As we sat down a delicious dish of tapenade and toasts was brought to the table.We asked to share a salad and a cheese/charcuterie sharing platter between three of us, which they were happy to do. There was a good selection.The service was efficient and friendly.
We were staying in this pretty village, the first night we just had drinks ( and the best tapenade ever!) What makes this place is the staff , the service , the ambience and the location. We went back the following evening and had drinks and dinner, again perfect. The food was really good, (entrecôte steak and porc) I think we were served by the owner, who was lovely, highly recommended!
My wife said it was a perfect Aprerol Spritz, my wine was good, the creme brulee was excellent. The waiter was disappointed we had already eaten dinner, but was good-natured and joked with us about having only dessert and drinks.
Friendly, multi-lingual service, good standard fare and a pretty darn good wine list in a central location (and a breeze!) make this a go-to spot for lunch or dinner.

Food looked good though we didn't eat there. Nice outside seating in the village squares do perfect place for an evening drink with the locals!
