They had me at “tortillas made in house '. I decided to make it Taco Monday and so after some Gastown tacos, I made my way to this place, not far from the famous 'Elbow Room ' where they allegedly treat you like ****, a concept that eludes my understanding (but apparently not that of Tom Selleck and other celebrities) and makes me feel like someone just needs to grow up and exercise some kindness in their dealings with others.... Anyway... Chancho Tortilleria is not large. It has only a few table with chairs that might threaten to fold up under their more dedicated customers. I would give Chancho a rating of 3.5 out of 5. To me, Chancho is like the taqueria version of the popular Meat Bread, but it should really be known as the Carnitas Tortillas. The menu is simple with only a few options, but this allows them to focus on doing one thing extremely well - delivering flavorful roasted pork that makes their tacos amazing. Everything else here is also excellent - from the corn flour tortillas to the fresh vegetable ingredients and all the condiments like the fresh salsa, whole pinto beans, pickled red cabbage, and hot sauce. Great Mexican restaurant! Definitely has the flavour of the Mexican carnitas, chips, guac, and some vegetarian options!! I would appreciate that all the staff were able to speak Spanish because of the mass of hispanic customers. Friendly place and prices are okay. It may be a little be expensive for latinos but overall is fair. I tried carnitas and desserts. Carnitas (pork) comes as in pounds with some side dishes, as beans, sauces and greens, also tortillas. A suggestion would be to keep tortillas warm as they’re in the table, because as you’re eating they get cold. But definitely worth it. We had churros with caramel sauce and lemon pie!
I recently uploaded a video review of Chancho Tortilleria on my YouTube channel, Vancity Food Crew. This new restaurant may be lesser known, but they specialize in one thing - pork tacos. They make their soft tortillas using a special tortilla machine from Mexico, resulting in delicious tacos. The pork tacos cost about $10 for 1/4 pound of meat, so a group of four can enjoy a full pound for $40. They also offer vegetarian fillings, although I did not try them. I had a great experience at this restaurant. The tortillas are incredibly authentic and the best I have tasted in Vancouver. The carnitas were delicious, although I personally found them a bit too salty (and I love salt). The salsa verde was good, but could have used a bit more spice. This is definitely the best taqueria in Vancouver, with reasonable prices for the generous portions of food. Unlike La Taqueria, where you're still hungry after eating four tacos. I will definitely be returning.
Chancho Tortilleria is a nice little Mexican restaurant that is known for home made tortillas from ingredients all over the world. They sell meat by the pound to allow for group settings, which is fantastic. They have a few different options only, but they're all delicious. The mix is probably the best tasting one. The staff is absolutely amazing, so friendly and helpful. It's kid friendly here, including having high chairs. Would highly recommend for lunch if you're in the area.
Chancho Tortilleria is a good spot for delicious Mexican food. We ordered takeout through the website and the pickup process was pretty smooth, but about 10/15 mins wait even after it said the order was ready as it was a Sunday night. The portion size was decent but we did have leftover tortillas at the end, perhaps we didn’t distribute the filling evenly. Everything was good bit will try dining in next time to get the freshest experience.
Had a great meal at chanchos. The closest I’ll get to authentic tacos before heading to Mexico. The sauces were delicious and the hot sauce just had the small bit of kick you need. Had the 1/4 mixed and 1/4 belly. Though I liked both, the belly is the way to go if your going all in. Came in their anniversary as well which was a Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
More than just tacos. I'm not expert on Mexican food but it felt more authentic and that they know what they're doing. Food was yummy: both meat and vegan options. Service was pleasant. There wasn't too much of a vibe and it felt like the place could use some creativity in making it more cosy.
