There are just certain places that have been there forever and still remain one of those spots to go experience. I have loved this place since I first visited probably a decade ago. They are cash only so have some on hand or be prepared to use the ATM. They use fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice for their screwdrivers, greyhounds, etc. The juice is awesome and something they are just known for. Their margaritas are pretty good too. They do pour pretty heavy so be prepared. The free popcorn is always the right amount of oil and salt ans the bowls they provide are generous. They did have a food truck outside of the patio, but we did not partake. All in all this is another Des Moines es...
This is a fun little bar if you're headed to a concert at Val Air. It's full of regulars But we didn't feel judged as outsiders as we walked in. It's an old building with a dive bar feel But there are certain things that make it feel like someone really cares. For example the drinks like screwdrivers and greyhounds are made with fresh squeezed juice, the bartender rotates the glasses, and everyone has greeted as they walk in the door. The only downside is that it's a cash only bar and the ATM was down so we had to leave.
This bar is one of the oldest in the area! Conveniently located just a few minutes walk from The Sands Outdoor Volleyball and Val Air Ballroom, with plenty of space to the parking lot. It is such a fun and lively place, and the staff is amazing, most staff have been there for 15 years!! Free popcorn and pot luck on NFL Sunday. This place has many regular guests, but is very open and welcoming from newcomers! 10/10 would recommend you stop and enjoy a lot of laughing at this place!
Great, nice people both as patrons and staff. 55¢ chili dogs on Sat morning. Fresh squeezed oranges in the screwdrivers. Super clean for a bar and a nice diverse crowd. Highly recommended.
Only at Charlie's you can get breakfast (fresh orange and grapefruit juice), lunch (hot dog and chips) and a snack (fresh popcorn); by bike ride down!
Nice little dive ish bar. Not too crowded for a Friday at 5! Drinks were good my captain n coke(s) were just right (in the short glass).
Hard to observe how the bartender interacted with people. Really unloved and sometimes just mean.
