I've written off this place for a while because of the name bc as an Chinese American, the restaurant name felt... so wrong, and some of the other local restaurants have burned me bc of how americanized they were. And I've had beloved places change chefs or recipes, and the food just don't taste the way they did before. But I'm so glad I gave this place a shot. The food is actually really good and authentic, and I'm really happy that there is a no tipping policy. When the food first came out, it was quick, warm and tasty! However, the next day I ate the leftover for dinner I am quite shock from the amounts of cooking oil. I know that good Chinese food doesn’t need a lot of cooking oil for it to taste good, so I am disappointed by that. I had to throw away the rest of eggplant dish because I am pregnant and isn’t good for me. Although the service and setting/environment was great. I might try again but I will request to limit on the oil. To me it’s more of a Chinese-American food, almost like Panda Express. The 3 dishes plus 18% tips, appx $75.
I was disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I paid over $20 per dish, only to find the portions were extremely small—barely enough for a toddler. I would recommend avoiding DoorDash from this establishment. The flavor was average at best, especially when compared to well-known Hunan cuisine spots in the Bay Area like Hunan Impression and Ping Bistro.
I love Chez Xue. They have awesome food, great staff and an email promotion that is really fun and valuable. Save your money and look elsewhere. This restaurant is overpriced and lacking in flavor. Both dishes I ordered—the Lamb with Cilantro and the Kung Pao Chicken—were utterly bland and tasteless. I even requested extra spice and extra peanuts, but it made no difference.
There is a sign at the entrance saying this is a no tip restaurant, but they charge an 18% mandatory gratuity for dine-in and 7% for takeout. This not only forces high tip rates but also tricks customers, which is unacceptable.
Nothing impressive, and it's definitely overpriced! I expected something more unique or at least larger portions for $30 for pork belly and $23 for cilantro beef.

The Veg Chow Mein is incredibly done. Made with fresh, quality ingredients. I will order from here again!
