After a long day's work and a good walk around the beautiful centre of Rouen we had to choose a restaurant. Thing is there are so many ones to choose from that we decided to take a chance.From the outside it's quite plain, plenty of people happily eating but as it was getting late we thought it best to go inside. What an eye opener - far classier on the inside. The table we where given was (sounds daft I know!) was big enough and the chairs comfy. The only downside was the beer choice; poor and the one I had was a bit sweet. Never mind. I started with crispy poached eggs, asparagus and cheese. We visited here on a Friday evening at the recommendation of our hotel. It's like a tardis, much bigger on the inside than out! Quirky decorations & painted seats. Not sure why someone else posting re there being no English menu as we got given English menus without even asking for them. Food was delicious. We had one of the set menus. I had a poached egg starter which was lovely, steak to die for and the ubiquitous creme brûlée. The only thing that let it down slightly was the length of time it took to put in any order - hence taking off one star. We sat for a looooong time without drinks or food. Wouldn't stop me going back again though as the food itself was great!
The food was delicious and the service friendly. The building and decor were fascinating - especially some of the furniture at the rear. Only problem was we requested to be seated inside as I am asthmatic to cigarette smoke, but the air was funnelled through the building, I assume to an open back door, so we were exposed to the fumes during the meal. Not sure if that is fixable. If you are not bothered by smoke, it's a very nice restaurant in a main tourist square containing the site of the execution of Joan of Arc and the beautiful peaceful church dedicated to her - a modern work of functional, sympathetic yet breathtaking architecture.
The Place du Vieux-Marché has many restaurants of all sorts, and most tourists are hesitant in choosing one. Try Restaurant "d' Eux-Mêmes", which means: of their own (cooking). Good Normand French food, nicely presented, of the type you would certainly not find in the US, England, Germany, nor Italy: for instance cod in various preparations, pickled makrels, delicious calf livers (a European delicacy), foie gras, tender jaws of calf or pork, and tempting desserts. Fair prices.

Pleasant staff made this uneventful meal more acceptable. Pork Chop was huge and tough and the Casserole was shredded beef in breaded crumbs and quite dry, with a sickly carrot puree . Returned to this restaurant as the last time, 2 years ago it was really good. But rather disappointing this time. 9 euro for two tiny scoops of ice cream was extraordinary. There are better places to go now.
Mix of ages, locals and visitors gave a good atmosphere. Friendly careful service. Rather expensive for the quality of food. Kitchen seems more interesting in impressing than satisfying clients. Steak came with 'potatoes 3 ways' but no other garnish. Just too cheffy for a family restaurant, particularly since the steak was nothing special. Disappointing.
A slight air of ripoff ... The restaurant clearly draws upon its proximity to 2 Rouen institutions (Les Maraichers and La Couronne) to drive footfall, but it seriously under-delivers with the food. All 4 dishes we had looked good enough. But every single one was tasteless - including the oysters, which takes some doing. Avoid
We stumbled on this restaurant perchance. We were a bit apprehensive at first because of the faux-chic decor, but, boy, were we wrong! The food was absolutely delicious: fresh, flavourful, well-priced. The service was stellar. And the "Mojito" dessert is a must-try. Highly recommend for those passing through Rouen!

Stopped here for an evening meal, decided spur of the moment to eat here. Nice place, great food. Ate outside. only downside is that smoking is allowed, certainly outside - but as a Brit we are used to smoking being banned in public places, guess this doesn't apply in France
Service beaucoup trop rapide pour un dîner entre amis. Commande des menus demandée alors que les apéritifs n’ont pas été choisis. Plats corrects sauf le dessert carotte orange très fade consensus des convives) . Ambiance agréable . Cadre sympathique.
