This was our fourth visit to En Japanese in Goodwood and we again enjoyed the experience. If you want white linen table dining, this is not the place for you. Having travelled to Japan, En is more like the type of small restaurant you will find in Tokyo, albeit with a larger floor area. En is about small plates, trying a different Japanese beer or some sake, ordering some food (small and large plates) and then ordering some more food later if you want to try something else. Tried this little place tonight. The service was so slow but the food was so good! I can't make up my mind if the food was good enough to warrant the long wait to go back again! When we finally got served we each ordered drinks, tasting plates, a couple of vegetable dishes to share and rice. The drinks came out first, about twenty minutes after ordering. Then another twenty minutes went past and out came the okonomiyaki. Another twenty minutes and out came the eggplant. Another twenty minutes and our friend's omelette arrived. Best Japanese cuisine we have had in Adelaide since the demise of Kenji! Decor and fit out are obviously not in the same league as what Kenji was as this is based more on an Izakaya style of dining but the food ( and prices ) more than make up for it! We shared all dishes and everything we ate was fresh, delicious and very well executed as well as being plated attractively. Great selection of Japanese beers and whiskeys and the wine list was a pleasant surprise as well. Staff were friendly and the only small negative I would mention was that the food was a little slow coming to the table. A great place to enjoy authentic Japanese food in Adelaide.
What a find! Starting with entering into a very welcoming atmosphere with a server who was all smiles with excellent recommendations for sake to compliment both the food and our personal tastes. We had the aburi salmon, miso soup and the chefs tasting platter along with the sake. Enough food for both of us and served at a nice gentle rate, we did not feel hurried at all. The bill came in at a $53 which I was so surprised at that I questioned whether they had left something off it! They hadn't it is just an incredibly affordable restaurant. Having not been here before we could have used some direction on ordering. I ordered a tasting plate thinking it would give me a general overview of what's on offer. Most items were overcooked, didn't leave me thinking I would want to come again and explore the menu further. We had 6 at our table and one meal came out about 20mins after all the others. Small portions, 2 of my children needed to fed again when they got home.
This is by far my new favourite Japanese restaurant. The food is prepared with love, care and precision. The food is traditional prepared and to the highest quality standards. Make sure you sit at the bar for the real experience. Watch the sushi chef slice and lay out perfect slices of the freshest fish/seafood... every dish is a beautiful artwork. Must try!!
Been here at least six times, Food is absolutely the best, good range of drinks. Beats many more expensive Japanese establishments hands down, and very reasonably priced Service isn't always fast, get over it and have a pint of asahi
Sadly we made a poor choice. I'm not sure if they were just understaffed but it was very poor. Fortunately the food was great but it was overshadowed by the wait. Happy to try again but my son and husband will never return. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Lots of atmosphere. Great sashimi. Service lacking and waitress missed one of our orders, but overall an enjoyable experience. Little dishes and drinks add up to quite an expensive dinner. Worth it for something different.
