This is everything wrong with Australian dining culture. Overpriced food with a celebrity chef who somehow convinced a nation that cheap street food is fine dining. Never in my life, until today, have I spent $30 on ‘Fat Pho’ a dish served in a bowl twice in width than its depth, filled 80% with soup and containing a very meagre serving of vermicelli combined with 3 or 4 thin strips of beef. The soup was thin water trying to taste like soup. The herbs and flavour are barely there, and I suspect the soup had been over-diluted in the kitchen. With no redeeming factor to speak of, that was my impression of the restaurant’s signature dish. Ah, I forgot to mention the bean sprout salad the sauce...
