After a long day trip of driving to and back from Lancaster, my buddy and I were debating on where to get some good food and beer. He recently went to First State Brewery and highly recommended the spicy chicken sandwich. Since I hadn't been to FirstState Brewery yet, we both decided to go here. It was quite busy on a late Saturday afternoon, so we decided to just sit at thebar. One of the servers/bartender immediately gave us menus and promptly took our orders. I ended up getting two beers, MindElevation and Tactical Exploitation. The tasting notes of Mind Elevation was supposed to have mango and pineapple, but in myopinion it was a little too hoppy. Today was my first visit; the atmosphere was nice, the dining area and bar were clean and everyone was very pleasant. We were quickly welcomed and seated, and our server was good. I only had one cocktail, but it was delicious. After the first impression was made, I was quickly disappointed. My friends ordered the poutine and brussel sprouts. The poutine was nothing more than cold, mushy fries (like one would expect eating leftover fries) with cold cheese curds, and cold gravy with semi warm meat. The Brussels weren’t even cooked; they were almost as hard as jawbreaker. My friend finally got the nerve to ask for another batch (she felt horrible for sending it back) and the manager redid them...
Great beer!!!Skip the food.I came here with the explicit purpose of getting poutine, even informed the bar tender that 's why I came, he said we sure do; after I got a beer I went to order food and was told they were out.So I ordered a blue hen sandwich, with sourdough instead of brioche, and fries; everything that was deep fried tasted of plastic.Not sure how, suspect someone dropped something plastic into the fryer; the oil didn 't taste rancid/fishy.When I asked the server if I could switch to sourdough, he responded Probably not, but I 'll ask. We have been coming to First State Brewing since they opened. It has been a couple of months since our last visit and we were looking forward to the usual menu items we order the food here has always been good. Unfortunately it was a let down today, it seems like the quality of the food has gone down hill. The menu items appear to have been adjusted and we get the sense they’ve been “cheapened”, and the standard was not what we’ve come to expect. The taste was just not the same either. First State is a fantastic addition to Delaware's brewing scene. Their hazy IPAs and Double IPAs are top-notch, but I have yet to try a beer from them that I didn't enjoy. Unlike many other breweries, First State offers a large food menu with appetizers, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees, kids meals, and desserts. They have plenty of parking, a spacious bar, great happy hour specials, and delicious tacos. The atmosphere is wonderful and it's conveniently located just off Route 1 for those heading to or from the beaches. I highly recommend checking them out - you won't be disappointed.
What a great place!! Awesome people, great food, and delicious beer, great atmosphere for family/ friends. Honestly my second family!! I feel so comfortable here. I walk in and I automatically get Triangle Theory from Grant and Mike!. I'm glad I got introduced to the this amazing place I fell in love. I cannot believe how incredible this place is. The scrapple sandwich, the beer... It made me reevaluate my entire existence because it was that good! Our bartender, Tom, was exceptional and guided us to the most amazing beers that truly amazed my tastebuds. I am actually thinking about selling all of my belongings and living in their parking lot.
Food has always been great, and the beer selection is fantastic. About half the time we do takeout, and half the time we eat in. Service is always friendly and great (and my 8year old is a huge fan of the free video games!)One request: any chance the kids menu items could be added to the Toast app for mobile ordering? This restaurant is fantastic! They offer a variety of games to play and a wide selection of beers. We enjoyed the cheesesteak, chicken and waffles, and the Baby Blue Hen, all served with fries. The fries were particularly delicious, and all the food was excellent!
