I was in Newry on Friday the 5th of November. Everything was fine it's fast food and I was eating out of necessity. The food was of a good standard and the staff were good and I sat down next to a group of teenage boys. A few moments later the manager approached the young men and in what I can only discribe as the worst display of bad manner's and unprofessional behavior I have ever seen. Seemingly one of the boys was eating Subway and the rest were consuming food from the premises. He actually began to swear at the young man and tell him to get the F out of the restaurant. The young man got up red-faced to leave and he continues to swear and F at him till the young man finally told him to F...
The food was prepared very quickly in just 5 minutes. However, when I got home, I realized that they had forgotten the coleslaw, which was the main reason for my visit to Friar Tucks. Additionally, my wrap was soggy, with sauce leaking out and not properly closed. After taking a bite, I found a thick black hair in my mouth. It was clear that little care had been taken in preparing the food. The garlic cheese bacon chips were disappointing as well, with undercooked bacon and only half full. Overall, it was a waste of money and a terrible experience. I have had decent experiences at this restaurant before, but no customer should have to endure such poor quality, especially considering the £25...
Friar Tucks was always a family favourite. Since they renovated the restaurant it has got worse and worse. The food is now just ok. Portions have got smaller and sometimes ordering can be difficult as the staff don't seem interested in being there. Place needs a good clean. The fact your chair slides on the floor as you are not moving highlights how much grease and dirt is on the floor. If you get a family meal it is a nightmare to get it without salad as the staff say it does not come with any, it does, every time and when you ask for some plated it is like you are giving them a really difficult job to do. Play area has been closed for a few years.
Avoid this place! Late in the evening when tired and passing through Newry, we wanted somewhere relatively convenient to eat. While we were not expecting a gourmet experience by any means...this is of course a chipper with a large seating area....our very modest expectations were not met. Fish and chips with a side of coleslaw....the fish in batter was greasy in the extreme...it oozed grease. I cannot comment on the coleslaw as it did not entice enough to try. Ate a few chips and they were average. Although very hungry, I only ate a few mouthfuls and then left. Partner’s chicken dish appeared to be better but I did not try it.

I had the fish and chips meal and it was absolutely fantastic. The gravy on the chips was amazing. Additionally, the restaurant still provides plastic straws, which allowed me to fully enjoy my coke.
In one word: disgusting. The food was terrible, staff was unfriendly. Complete waste of money as nothing was edible. The fish was greasy and the chips were hard and cold.
Fast food but good fast food. Staff were friendly. Area clean as were the tables. I have been in other friar tucks and have had to ask staff to clean table before use.
Safe to say I will not be getting another chicken wrap to go from this place ..tasteless and soggy..took ages to get my order and a grumpy lady to serve me...

You can eat in or take away, great selection of chicken and fish dishes and mushy peas on the menu too. Plenty of sit in seating and street parking outside.
Love this place. When in the mood for fast food this is our go to place. Always get the same quality. Hot chicken salad is class
