I had the takoyaki and the ebi kakiage udon. The udon itself was really good and cooked perfectly. The ebi kakiage that came with it was not authentic (they used the wrong kind of shrimp and seasoning) but still tasted great. The takoyaki wasn’t authentic either. It didn’t taste bad but as a Japanese person, this was not a takoyaki. The outer crispy layer was completely wrong and the katsuo shavings had an odd texture to it. If this place was advertised as Americanized Japanese I wouldn’t mind it, but they were advertising it as an authentic restaurant, which it simply was not. It’s difficult to find a good udon place around Boston and I came upon this place via Uber Eats. Ordered their pork kimchi Udon, curry fried chicken udon, and chicken tatsuta-age, and as a huge fan of Japanese fried chicken, I really enjoyed their tatsuta-age and the curry chicken udon. It would’ve been better if they used thinner udon noodles, but the classic combination of curry and chicken was impeccable. However, pork kimchi udon was a bit of a disappointment; the kimchi broth they provided on the side was too watery and I couldn’t feel the depth of kimchi flavor in it.
This restaurant offers excellent Chinese and Japanese fusion udon. The udon here boasts a robust flavor that sets it apart from other udon places. It's both easy to eat and packed with taste. The restaurant is impeccably clean, and the staff are friendly. You can even see the kitchen preparing your meal. I tried the spicy miso udon from the lunch menu, and it was hearty and delicious. I'm curious about the size of the udon on the dinner menu! If you're a fan of udon, make sure to check this place out.
Pros: lightning fast service and a lot of variety for a small-ish menu. Prices are fair and portions are pretty large! Cons: It is SO COLD in here. Seriously- the overhead fans are so strong, and if I wasn’t already eating a cold dish, I’m sure it would’ve cooled down anything I was eating immediately. The fried chicken curry udon is definitely a highlight. I couldn’t fully enjoy the cold mentaiko udon because it was freezing inside, but also the broth was too watery/milky for my tastes. The restaurant is decent, but it doesn't quite reach the same level as Yume. The beef broth is a bit saltier than what you’d find at Yume, but it has more beef in it. The portions of fried baby octopus were very small, although they were tasty. Unfortunately, the takoyaki didn’t hit the mark. It's worth a visit, but it feels a bit overrated considering the experience. Overall, it's good, but not exceptional.
The homemade udon at this restaurant was impressive. The soup was delicious and served piping hot. The atmosphere felt very cozy and inviting. I'm happy to note that they offer options for both vegetarians and vegans. Just a heads up: the lines can get quite long, so it's a good idea to put your name on the waitlist 30-45 minutes in advance!
I had one of the best Udon noodles I've ever tasted at this restaurant. We ordered the cheese niku curry and the pork kimchi udon. The server recommended the cheese niku curry, and it was absolutely delicious. There was a wait of about 15 minutes to get seated, but the service was excellent. I will definitely return to try more dishes!
I have been to Futago twice and I cannot stop raving about their udon to my friends. Creative, vibrant and obviously delicious dishes, plenty of street parking near by, what else could you ask for! Big portion for sure. Ordered niku udon, cold mentaiko udon, sukiyaki udon, seaweed salad and fried pork gyoza. However, the fried qyoza isn't recommended; just not good for me. It was full when we came and few minutes wait.
