The "Goody" has recently updated their menu ... or perhaps it's just the paper. Regardless, it's a great neighbourhood hotel on Goodwood Road to have a bite and a beer. Like most hotels, the atmosphere is relaxed. You have a choice of sitting in the bar area or actually sitting down on proper tables and chairs if sitting on a bar stool is not practical. Saturday lunch time is easy, laid back and quiet but not overly quiet that you feel the place is dead. We've had some great experiences in pub bistro meals in the past twelve months. The Queens Head was all class. The Brompton was outstanding. The Birkenhead Tavern was a rock solid, traditional charmer. The Goodie? Well you're not going to go home with much to complain about, but by the same token you're not going to rave to all your friends. I've visited the goody on a few occasions now, which each have been most enjoyable. The restaurant decor is casual, neat and spacious. Whilst the menu is extensive, the large variety of meals are consistently of high quality. Having visited, I would recommend greek salad with added haloumi and chicken. The chicken was crisp and tender, and the salad was fresh and well-dressed. The pork belly roast, chicken parmigiana, burgers, and pizzas have also appeared to be well-liked by my company. As dessert, we each enjoyed a chocolate sundae which was absolutely delicious - the smooth vanilla ice-cream, accompanied by crunchy peanuts and rich chocolate sauce was heavenly! Popped into "The Goody" for a quick lunch in the front bar based on the recommendation of a friend. First impressions were good, the dining area was well presented with various seating options, we choose the outdoor area. The staff were really nice, a real pleasure to deal with. It was cheap snitzel day so I had a chicken parmy and a garlic bread. The parmy was a good size, well presented and tasted good. The garlic bread was the surprise of the meal, it was a gorgeous little load of bread with four cuts (forgot to take s photo, sorry) with the garlic butter in the cuts. It looked fantastic. Overall a nice lunch with good service in a pleasant atmosphere under $20 with a drink, a winner...
The Goody is a really stock standard pub. The decor isn't hugely inspiring, and the food is okay, with staple Pub menu items such as steaks, schnitzels & roasts of the day. I had the schnitzel with a kilpatrick topping. The meals didn't take long to come out, had not been skimped on (which was great) and the chicken was tender and thick. I really enjoyed my meal but it was slightly bland without salt. BE WARNED. YOUR SCHNITZEL WILL SIT ATOP YOUR CHIPS. :) Not a bad meal, nothing hugely fancy but will probably be back with my entertainment card!
Poppy tried the Goody for the first time. And I have to say that for pub food it was fantastic. The beef schnitzel parmigiana was awesome and tasty with a nice side of steamed vegetables and Asian salad. The seafood basket was also delicious containing Pale Ale battered Flathead, skewered King Prawns and salt & pepper squid on a bed of beer battered chips. Delightful! For pub food Poppy was very impressed. Great portion sizes and not overpriced for the area. If you're hankering for a pub meal check it out. Definitely worth an eat, will be back ????
Waited over an hour for my food, my coworkers got their food a full 20 minutes before mine. When asking if I could substitute chips for sweet potato chips, they said they would have to charge me the full price of a side of chips instead. The sweet potato fries were soggy, undercooked and I only received three or four of them. The salt and pepper squid was tasteless and the batter fell off immediately. Do not recommend. Not very vegetarian friendly unfortunetly. The pizza's are yummy and surprisingly filling but you go there for pub food. Some burgers or even potato wedges on the menu would be nice. Overall food was tasty (from what little choice there) but menu very dissapointing...
