Since that visit, we've returned multiple times, and each experience feels like a red carpet treatment. The food is incredibly fresh. I particularly love their crushed lentil soup—it's the best in the city! The grilled chicken is always perfectly charred and juicy, and the ghallaba is simply the best I’ve ever tasted. Eating here feels like my body is thanking me for nourishing it with such lovingly made food, served by the finest people in the business. Middle Eastern cuisine truly represents the heart of Metro Detroit, and dining at Grape Leaves is a quintessential Detroit experience. I cannot recommend it enough—I'm a customer for life! Absolutely amazing experience! We ordered the vegetarian dinner for two, and it was more than enough for four or five people. The dinner comes with two each of grape leaves, falafel, and small spinach pies, which you can easily cut in half or share. There’s plenty of pilaf, majadra, couscous, salad, hummus, baba ganoush, garlic dip, and hot pita bread to satisfy anyone’s appetite—so good! We also took home some (adorably tiny) baklava with our leftovers. Even though I live on the other side of town, this place is more than worth the trip. As for accessibility, it’s wheelchair friendly, with parking right by the front entrance!
Grew up in Detroit eating Middle Eastern food, then moved to the West Coast where this cuisine is hard to find and when you do, it's just not the same. I'm in town this week visiting family who suggested this place and it instantly reminded me how much I've missed good Middle Eastern fare. I work for Taft law firm and we ordered lunch for a large group. Amazing food and the best service . Joe was amazing . He was on time and very helpful and very professional and nice . We will definitely be ordering again in the future . When I got home to eat my food, it mirrored the poor service and was disappointing as well. In my previous visits, I had experienced good customer service from a different server. However, the server with short salt-and-pepper hair seemed to deliberately make me feel unwelcome. Because of this terrible treatment, I will not be returning to this restaurant.
