Stopped over in beautiful Tournus last night and being a Sunday there were very few options of where to eat. The charming gentleman at the Greuze Hotel recommended the one star restaurant of same name but no affiliation with the hotel. Have to admit that...after a long drive all we wanted was something simple but of good quality so a one star restaurant was not exactly what we were looking for. BUT the whole experience from start to finish was top class. Staff were professional and knowledgable. We chose the simplest set menu which was 48 Euros for three courses and 58 Euros for four. Being greedy we chose the latter. Each course was a work of art, beautifully presented and exquisite flavour...
we had gone by some occasions, and really liked the look. we couldn't find a parking space before we were determined. this time we went early and we had one of the best meals we had in France. wow....The menu is fascinating, we chose two courses next to start and gloom. the sommelier chose two glasses wein for us. from beginning to end it was a gastronomic experience at the highest level.
my humble opinion is this place is one of the best restaurants in bourgogne. I visited some other michelin rated restaurants in tournus, chalon or beaune. they were all great, but greuze is the best. the chef is friendly and humble and the sommelier. have us great tips to weep from the Macon region (süd bourgogne).
loved eating the wee and the facility. the chef came to welcome us, which is too rare in michelin star restaurants! we feel that this restaurant deserves a second star. a few days before eating in this restaurant we ate in the 3-star restaurant enoteca pinchiorri in florenz. the food was of the same quality!
