The only downside to Owd Nell's is that it is incredibly popular! Located right on the Lancaster Canal, it is a fantastic spot to park, go for a walk, and then enjoy a drink and meal upon your return. During our visit on a Sunday lunchtime, the restaurant was bustling and busy. It seemed like by mid-afternoon, it would be packed with people, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, although it may take longer to be served. We have been dining at Guys and Owd Nells for years, but recently we have noticed a significant increase in prices and a lack of attention to detail in both the bar and in food preparation and service. During our breakfast visits over the past 4 or 5 weeks, we have experienced inconsistencies in our orders. For example, our basic bacon and egg toastie and coffee have been prepared poorly, with burnt toast, unevenly toasted bread, greasy bacon, and weak coffee. In one instance, it took 10 minutes to receive a basic americano that was nearly transparent. We have been going to Old Nels for over 40 years and been happy with the food, but this was one of the worst meals we have ever , cold chips and veggies and tuff over cooked nells chicken , we complained and the young girl said she could get us fresh chips but we said we would have it with salad instead,we expected to get a fresh fried chicken but the old chicken came back even dryer , grandchild’s chicken nuggets were the same ,she couldn’t cut them , not good enough for £38 , and having to come home to cook dinner , very disappointing! .
Me and my family stopped here for quick breakfast and I'm sorry to say we was Absolutely appalled! The service when we ordered was a joke, a bunch of teenagers stood behind the bar with not a brain cell between them. I ordered toast and my son ordered a bacon and egg sandwich. My toast turned up half cooked and without any butter ?! My son's sandwich was drippibg with grease and the bacon was fatty and horrible. Not often we go to Owd Nell's, but we will not be returning Don't even want to give them 1 star, they don't even deserve that.

We have moored on the canal at old nells on many occasions. Had a problem with my lunch BUT Andy turned a negative into a positive! He could not do enough for us and really went over and above to make our visit a good experience. Would def recommend a visit and a meal. Ice cream is to die for. I hope ANDY gets to see this feedback, thank you so much you are an asset to the team at Nells
The restaurant lacked basic skills to properly make a cheeseburger. The burger patty was burnt and crunchy, with no meat left in it, and there was no cheese. When asked for a remake, they simply added two cold slabs of cheese on top of the old burger. The food was overcooked and burnt, and not worth the price. A better burger can be found at McDonald's for a fraction of the cost.
A lovely spot in the world and even canal side peaceful scenery ruined by loud rap music played throughout the beer garden. Even the ducks weren't keen. What really spoilt it though was when i had almost finished my drink noticing that the glass had two red lipstick stains on it. Left my drink and we left. wont be hurrying back either.
The food was appalling, fresh made pizza, not fresh and on a bought base. Arrived cold. Cheese and onion pie slice was rock hard and burned. The cheese had formed a hard skin from the microwave. £6.95 for half a lettuce with some spunk sauce on and bacon bits. Beer was flat. Nice location, spoiled by the menu.

We stopped for a bite to eat all of our choices were lovely freshly prepared. Drinks were also good. Staff were just wandering around in groups mainly it was odd to see. That said we did have one lovely waitress collect our plates ask if everything had been ok. Would visit again definitely.
I have been many times to old nells and it will be the last time I go. Cheese and onion pie which looked like it was cooked hours ago and just kept warm. The pastry was hard the filling dried out and well overcooked. The chips were no different.
