This would have to be a really unique cafe. From the outside and by the name of it, well you ask what the? First, it sits in a street within one of Canberra's utility shopping areas - the kind of place you go to for lighting, security fittings, auto car or musical instruments. So it's a strange setting - placed anywhere else and you'd be in a queue to get a seat. Second, the cafe itself has varying delights. Visually, in part you are in a mixture of a euro deli and a home style shop. On the other, be wooed by their culinary delights both savoury and sweet. They are great tea and serve it properly. On a good day the service is quick. On a bad day there can be a wait however. Coffee tastes great. Previously I didn't care too much for the beans they used however a recent change has improves this. Very nice atmosphere inside as well. You could think you were in some Swiss town somewhere. Staff always friendly. Think she may be the owner of the cafe and would also say she is very helpful, professional, friendly and always ensures her customers are looked after and leave happy.
In Canberra's timeline, Hansel & Gretel is long-established, with a reputation for good coffee and reasonable food. They also stock a wide range of imported chocolates, sweets, nuts etc, including some more up-market gift boxes and tins - mostly not cheap, but probably reasonable value.The service is friendly and reasonably efficient - although sometimes a bit erratic during a busy Saturday morning.
We come here almost weekly to get our coffee supplies. Sometimes have food, which all looks delicious. The management changed some time ago and there seems to be a fresh interesting choice of food. But if you love coffee, this is the place to have a cup and to buy your supplies. Lots of other delicacies including a brilliant choice of chocolates.

Breakfast time. Service on a busy Saturday morning was a bit problematic. Got pricing wrong but sorted it out. Quality of food very good and to preferences. Timing also good. We don't like meal and drinks separated by 30 minutes so all good here. Atmosphere is excellent and busy and in a lovely setting.

Hansel and Gretel is a bit like the fairy story... something to tempt everyone! Chocolates, gifts, salad bar, melts and good coffee. Freshly made sandwiches, friendly service and reasonable prices, can't go wrong at Hansel and Gretel's.
Good to see I can still get a coffee in Philip late on a Saturday afternoon. Coffee quick and ok, the milk a bit hot. The lady at the pay counter seemed rushed off her feet, maybe she should share the work load a bit.

Went to Hansel for a catch up with a business colleague. the venue is quiet and the coffee is good. and there is usually parking just outside. Have been a few times and its been good consistently
Always a good place to drop in, meet friends and relax. The coffee and service are good. The only problem is trying to get a park close by.
