I first discovered this place on a date a couple of years ago and returned last night with a couple of friends for a nightcap. If you’re looking for a cozy, romantic hideaway that feels like a blend of Japanese and Parisian bar vibes, this is it. The dim red lighting, rustic walls, and artistic touches create a warm, intimate atmosphere. The bartender, Teddy, was incredibly friendly, funny, and attentive, genuinely connecting with every guest. My first drink, the Sugar Teddy, was perfectly balanced—a nigori sake with just the right hints of yuzu, ginger, and pineapple. Teddy then asked about our preferences and crafted a hibiscus-based cocktail that was refreshing, unexpected, and delicious....

Hard to Explain was one of the most delightful surprises during our NYC visit. Hidden in plain sight, it’s a place you’ll be thankful to discover. Inside, they serve some of the finest Japanese-inspired cocktails in the city. The drinks were creative and expertly crafted, and the bartender made the experience even more enjoyable. I’ve hosted a few private parties at Hard To Explain, and the service and quality are truly exceptional! The staff is friendly, the sake, beer, and wine selection is outstanding, and the atmosphere is fantastic. I especially love their wine options. Communication and coordination with the team are seamless, making it the perfect spot for small events. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
