I would have to put Helena's Hokkaido among the most impactful restaurants to come out of Montana. When they first opened, the closest place to get ramen was Bozeman or Missoula around 100 miles away. They quickly became incredibly successful and have since branched out into almost every major city in MT and have plans for restaurants opening out of state. This success is well deserved, I cannot speak for the cultural authenticity of their ramens but I can speak on the flavors which are superb. Their broths are very rich and full bodied and they top each ramen with an assortment of fun toppings. Their sushi offerings and other food are great as well but they do not stand above the rest quite...
I have to admit that I didn't expect much when I went to this place, as there are only two Japanese restaurants in helena, but I was totally blown away with the riddles. came on a Tuesday night around 19 o'clock and the place was pretty crowded. had to wait to sit. the friendly waitress came fast and took our job, but we had to wait for about 20min until eating. I ordered the garlic tonkotsu ramen $13,) and my wife got the tantanmen $14,) both were amazing. the broth was really tasteful, and in any case good portion, as we both couldn't finish them. would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is looking for good rammen when he visits or passes by helena.
Love visiting this location. It has a friendly, inviting vibe. They have a variety of Sushi selections and it's very authentic. Their Ramen selections and taste is outstanding. The portion is very generous. My husband and I frequent this place while we are here in Helena. We also enjoy the friendliness, energy and knowledge of our server each time we visit. The best part is she remembers our frequent order, which is heartwarming. I highly recommend that place if you like the Japanese cuisine Authenticity that takes your palate to Japan without leaving Helena.
Such a delicious treat in Downtown Helena. Parking is available close to the restaurant that does offer outdoor dining, which we absolutely took advantage of. Take a seat and take in all the amazing buildings that make up the scenery in this quiet little city. The food was phenomenal!! I just went here for the first time today and it was delicious! I got the garlic ramen and it's by far some of the best I've had. It's comparable to ramen from Chinatown in downtown Chicago! I also got some of their yellowtail and alaska sushi rolls which were also fantastic. I'll definitely be going here again, and soon. 10/10!
delicious! the attentive staff. great timeline. in and out in an hour. absolutely delicious rams. broth and reserve ribs were so delicious in my spicy bark dish. could have been spicier, but they gave me more chili paste that did the trick. the sushi roll that I had (avocado and erdnuss) was delicious. great experience.
I am impressed by the exceptional sushi and ramen noodle bowls at this restaurant. My only suggestion would be for them to move to a larger space in order to accommodate more customers.

You can never go wrong with the goyza potstickers at this restaurant, paired with the Montanan dish. Don't forget to try their beer, The New Hokkaido.
