This pub is the oldest licensed hotel in Australia ... so our lovely waitress told us ... and it was fabulous. There are a variety of rooms over two stories of the hotel to eat in and we found ourselves up on the second floor. The place is wonderfully quirky, filled with antiques and all sorts of bits and bobs to entertain the eye. I popped my head into most of the rooms and the decore throughout was delightful.

Restaurant at Hope & Anchor was on our Entertainment card, so thought it worthwhile to check out. Downstairs was full, so we sat in one of the upstairs rooms, themed with horns and stag heads. With a window open and slight breeze, it made for a great space to dine, with only one other table occupied. While they dithered over menu choices, we ordered quickly and did not have to wait too long for our mains.

Schlechter Service und nicht so freundliches wartendes Personal. Wir kamen zur Restaurantseite und nicht von niemandem an der vorderen Zähler zehn Minuten anerkannt. Schließlich setzten wir uns auf der Bar, mit einer viel besseren Atmosphäre mit Live-Musik. Die langsame gekochte Rindfleisch-Teigwaren war lecker, aber nicht für die winzige Portionsgröße und den teuren Preis wert. Enttäuscht, dass ich über 30 Minuten für eine solche geringe Menge an Lebensmitteln gewartet habe, sonst hätten das Essen selbst 5/5 gewesen. Es ist das erste Mal, dass ich ein Restaurant immer noch hungrig hat.

On a recent trip to Hobart my partner and I had the pleasure of visiting Australia's 'oldest' pub which was luckily quite close to our hotel. The Hope and Anchor is a warm and welcoming old style pub with generous, good quality food. My steak was cooked perfectly, the wine list was decent and the staff were friendly. Live music on a Wednesday night was also a bonus. I would eagerly recommend this place to anyone in Hobart after a decent, no-nonsense counter meal in a cosy setting.
Besuch in Hobart Ich wollte eine Mahlzeit in Australiens ältestes lizenziertes Pub (1807) erleben. Mein Calamari war in Ordnung ... nichts, um nach Hause zu schreiben. Enttäuscht aber enttäuscht, dass die Bar einen Somersby-Apfelwein auf dem Tap und keine lokale TASSE eins hat. Auch Bar kann unglaublich laut und hart um einen Tisch nach 19 Uhr bekommen. Der Fernseher ruinierte es auch für mich - ein lokaler Musiker spielte, aber der Fernseher (mit Footy) war hinter ihr, ein bisschen eine Beleidigung!
Dies sollte vielleicht ein 1.0 sein, aber wir bleiben nicht lange genug, um tatsächlich zu bestellen, also wer weiß, wie gut das Essen ist. Was für ein schockierender amateurischer Rabble waren sie jedoch. Zu sehen, wie der.chaos mild amüsant war, bis wir mit unserem kleinen Jungen übrig waren, ohne 30 Minuten serviert oder anerkannt zu werden. Nadeln zu sagen, wir mussten sich verlassen und Fisch und Chips aus dem Hafenfront bekommen.
Needed a quick lunch the other day so called in to the Hope & Anchor. They have several $10 meals which are great value. I went for the chicken burger which was really tasty and came with very crunchy chips. Not a bad range of beers and cider on tap. Free pool as well!

Nice cold beer and good bar food. Quaint pub had an open fire going friendly staff. Nice place to spend an afternoon in Hobart
