A great room, sweet patio (when the weather cooperates,) and being so convenient to transit gives this place a ton of potential - which they seem to squander at every opportunity. Been coming to this place off-and-on since it opened, and keep hoping they'll get it together, but always end up just kind of going meh. After a long walk a friend and I dropped in during Happy Hour. Firstly, it was very difficult to find and there was no signage we could see in the 3 storey building which also houses the Skytrain Station. Luckily the weather was fine and we sat on the patio. I was disappointed that there was no listing of "on tap" beers on the table and had to walk back in to the bar area to read them on a board. I wasn't too impressed with the selection (I like a dark beer and the only one to be had was a stout. I opted for a Stanley Park amber which turned out to be a good choice.) We arrived at this restaurant on a moderately busy Friday night. We asked for a table on the patio as they have one of the best in terms of view in New Westminster. Despite having several open tables on the patio, we were told that we would have to wait about 10 minutes which wasn't a problem as we simply had a drink at the bar. 10 minutes turned into 20 minutes and we were finally seated on the patio. Once on the patio, we made several attempts to flag down a server before someone finally came after 20 minutes sitting on the patio. This restaurant had so much promise. but alas, several visits confirmed that it wasn't a fluke.The portions are very small and the prices are exorbitant. Service is painfully slow, every time I've been there. The food is often nearly cold by the time it is served. I have reviewed this place before. It went from being an overpriced college cafeteria to a hip open happy hour gathering place. Big open seating with booths, tables and patio seating. The bar has a dozen stools and tvs. Happy hour is the real time to be here with $4 wells. Expect a mix of movie patrons and students from the nearby college.
As a Brit I was introduced to The Hub last year. Returning visit now and I headed straight for there. Great beer range and very good food at affordable prices. For me though, it was the excellent service I received tonight and last night. The staff were friendly and most attentive. I was very impressed. I'll definitely come back.
The food was average. Not great but not bad. Our waitress hurt her ankle in the middle of serving us and disappeared without telling the management so we had no service for about 15 mins. The management responded by reducing our bill due to the inconvenience. VERY classy. Due to that fact alone I will give The Hub another visit.
This place used to be overpriced. But it brought in daily specials and happy hours like $4 wells. It has an OK view of the river and surrey in the distance. When it comes to happy hour, beer selection and overall quality of food, you leave feeling satisfied. Did go here outside of happy hour times and felt I didn't get my bang for my buck. But still a good choice to watch some sports and consume beverages with friends.
