I have been visiting the Hoboken area for a decade and always had fond memories until last night. I went to Il Laboratorio Del Gelato after dinner with my kids. Every small cup they sell comes with a minimum of two scoops, but my kids only wanted one scoop each. The staff told me that an extra cup would be free, so I asked if they could split the two scoops into two separate cups. He said that was a perfect solution. However, when I went to pay, I was charged for two small cups instead of one. When I explained that the staff had just told me the extra cup would be free, he replied, "I don’t know. Terrible experience with both the place and the staff. They charge $8 for one cup of gelato, and since I had two kids, I asked if I could get an extra cup to share the gelato myself. At checkout, I was charged $8 for the additional empty cup, meaning I ended up paying full price for it. When I questioned this, the staff member told me it wasn’t his problem and that it was company policy. I strongly advise being cautious with this place—there are plenty of other ice cream spots that offer better quality and prices. Avoid this one!

Hands down, some of the best gelato I've ever had in the NYC area—worth every single dollar. I find myself coming back almost every week for a small cup. The mascarpone flavor is incredibly creamy, and the chocolate stracciatella is just as amazing. The chopped chocolate pieces add a delicious crunch, and you can really taste the depth and quality through the gelato’s texture. Highly recommended!
