I have been eating at the Kenmount for fifty years. It has consistently served excellent Chinese food however, I have come to expect slow service. Saturday evening was the worst ever with regard to slowness. I was with my wife, her two sisters and there two husbands. We arrived at 6PM to find that there were two small tables and a table of sixteen already seated. The waitress told us to expect slow service, when I pressed she said that we should be out the door in 1.5 hours. That was acceptable, we finally got a round of drinks and had a chat. I love the old layout and the building has a cool design. I dont know why people are complaining so much. Why would you go to a restaurant just for the wallpaper? You should go there for the food. I had the Yang Chow Fried Rice and I enjoyed it. Its just too bad im broke because theres so many other dishes there that sound yummy and I dont have the money to afford to go there often but the food is well worth the price. Myself and Gary Patey were craving Chinese food and decided to order; only to find out our favourite restaurant was closed today :( City Lights , so we decided to finally try that Kenmount Chinese Restaurant .... Omg... Don't know what we were thinking.... We ordered 4 full orders of food and it cost $52.00 and there was barely enough food to feed both of us and it was not good at all, very bad quality...Very disappointed!! And I blame myself haha there are never cars in that parking lot and now I know why. For a family birthday we get together and place an order at the Kenmount Restaurant. We get three orders of everything like the usual's rice, won tons, egg foo young, mixed vegetables, ribs etc...The food is consistently very good. Never a problem with quality or amounts. A lot of people don't go into the restaurant as it looks closed from the outside. Recently they have been doing a lot of exterior renovations to change that. So if your looking for very good Canadian Chinese Takeout I would recommend the Kenmount.
The decor is dated and there are never many customers there when I visit but the food is the best Chinese food available anywhere ... and I mean anywhere in North America. I’m referring to Americanized Chinese food that we are accustomed to. Try the chicken balls, yang chow fried rice, chicken chow mein,wings of heaven, and egg rolls and enjoy. Better hurry though because I suspect the owner will be retired soon and the restaurant will be closed.
I have read the comments. Yes it's older but beautifully maintained. Very clean. Will lit in a romantic/subdued way. Very friendly staff. I would recommend for a family dinner, party or just by your self. Food was good.
Food is always delicious and fresh, been a loyal customer for years. The restaurant may look old (it’s been around for years), but the food always makes up for it. Highly recommend.
