La Guitarra Con Sazon

My wife and I had such a wonderful out-of-town date night dinner at La Guitarra con Sazon! We don't eat out often, because we are so disappointed with the food at so many restaurants, making this experience a pleasant surprise. We started by sharing an order of cheviche mixto and we would happily have that again. My wife had the arroz con mariscos, and I had the picante da mariscos. I find that many restaurants don't know how to cook fish properly, usually overcooking it. This chef certainly knew what they were doing! Upon entering, there is a funny smell to the place. It looks old and outdated with minimal lighting. It's as if the restaurant has not been well kept. The restaurant could use an update to the place to attract more clientele. While we went on a Friday night and with so much space and being they are on a main road, expected more traffic in. The service was great however. Our waitress was very attentive refilling our cups and asking if we needed anything else.My husband ordered the ceviche de camarón con mango. We discovered this gem through a friend. What a great find. The food is incredible. I experienced a dish of fettuccine with tenderloin, tomatoes, onions and spices cooked in a wok. What fantastic flavors of food combinations. This is by far my favorite. The Ceviche does not disappoint. There are various selections. The appetizers are plentiful and delicious. The desserts are in house made and phenomenal. Tres Leche is divine and don't pass up the upside down flan. Treat your tastebuds. Chips and sauce is fantastic. I have to commend the chef and their team. I am Venezuelan and have lived in Peru, where I had the opportunity to work with Peruvian cuisine, so I know what quality ingredients look like. I was celebrating my anniversary, and both my husband and I were able to enjoy the Rice with Seafood. I noticed that the rice is served separately from the seafood, which was an excellent experience because we were able to savor the sauce, which is spectacular. The touch of milk was just right. We searched for Peruvian food because we were in the mood for some ceviche. I ordered the grilled octopus in olive oil, which turned out to be disappointing. The dish contained only five tiny pieces of octopus, mostly drowned in sauce and corn. The ceviche was meant to be mixed but was primarily just fish, and it looked like they had chopped a single shrimp into five pieces. The taste was decent, but I think I'll try a different place when I’m back in Houston.

This is one of our favorite Peruvian restaurants. My wife had the lomo, and I had the picante mariscos, both of which were excellent. The lucuma ice cream was delicious too!
