We dined at La Lanterna tonight, our first time back since Joanne and her family took over as owners again. The food and service are just as good, if not better than before. We brought my wife's parents with us to celebrate her dad's 86th birthday. It can be difficult to impress him with Italian food as he is originally from Bari, Italy, having moved to the US 60 years ago. My wife was actually born there. I am pleased to report that they both thoroughly enjoyed the meal tonight, making for a very enjoyable dining experience. Haven't been here in a long time, and was disappointed. We requested a specific table and was told that afternoon that we could have it, but when we arrived it was given to someone else (even though we were early for our reservation), and I got a bit of a lecture from the hostess that I have to reserve that way in advance. I order salmon cooked through (well done) and it was very rare. I sent it back and when I got it back it was horrible and dried out. The waitress then lectured me about well done salmon. Nonsense. My husband LOVED his gluten free pasta with puttanesca sauce, although it was a very small portion.
We celebrated my mom's 84th birthday at La Lanterna today with a party of 13 people. This restaurant is truly exceptional, with each course surpassing the last. Joanne, the owner, is incredibly professional, and her son Antonio truly understands the business. The service was top-notch, and the food was served promptly and hot. Joanne and Antonio helped make my mom's birthday party a memorable one. La Lanterna is definitely worth a visit, and I wish them continued success. I will be returning soon.
While in Ridgewood for the street fair, we stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant after searching for a place to eat. The menu was excellent, with many specials to choose from, and the service was outstanding. Even though it was our first time dining there, the family-operated restaurant made us feel like regulars. Very good local, family owned Italian restaurant. Appropriate, initmate atmosphere; attentive, nice staff, and very good, yet not very adventurous, menu and evening specials. I recently tried the food at this restaurant and found it to be incredibly delicious. The flavors were exceptional, and the presentation and service were excellent. I ordered a takeout meal for dinner and was very impressed. The price per person was between $30-50. I would give the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect score of 5.
